There's an interesting episode of "Whistleblowers" featuring the Kingston clan on CBS right now (PDT).

I'm not sure I would agree with that "interesting" analysis; the Kingstons are clearly among the most pathological of the "fundamentalist Mormon" groups.

They are notorious for the inbreeding they practice and I think it's clear it would be more accurate to characterize them as an organized crime operation. Horrible people...

I do think the actions of the whistleblowers who exposed their activities are nothing short of heroic.

I watched it last night. Disturbing that they are allowed to continue to fester.

The "stars" of that were Kingstons, although they help other polygamists, too.

I keep forgetting about Whistleblowers. I'll have to watch that one tonight.

I'm astonished that young people, in this day and age, can grow up and still belong. It demonstrates the power of cultic belief, identity, and membership. Something for us to bear in mind when we're frustrated by ordinary Mormons who just won't see the light.

We watched it last night. I recorded it because I think it would be good for our daughter and SIL to see. My hat's off to that brave couple. We also watch "Escaping Polygamy".

My late Catholic wife was glued to the TV for Escaping Polygamy.

You'll have to turn ad blocking off.

And the follow-up SL Tribune piece:

https://www.sltrib.com/artsliving/2019/05/30/scott-d-pierce/

I happened to be in the Plymouth-Portage area a while back. The biofuel plant is very large, and very...inactive. I happened to have a chat with a young woman, about 16 or so, hauling a car full of kids, maybe six in a sedan? front & back seats, all over each other, NOBODY with a seatbelt. The Kingstons are known for packing kids and moving them from one family caretaker to another.

I stopped in the Kingston-owned United Fuels gas/diesel truckstop. The cashier was a drop-dead beatiful mid-teenager--perfect hair, makeup, nails, figure, obviously being groomed as a trophy wife.

OH MY HELL!! So that is why Washakie has disappeared off the Megaplex theater screens! They were a big advertiser for the Millers. They did put a shot of the Jazz and the Millers.

Wasn't Washakie the sponsor for the Utah Jazz arena for a while?

I didn't see all this happen on the news. Where was I?????

This is going to be interesting. I certainly hope they cover this trial on the news.

"Washakie once faced a $3 million fine over allegations it 'failed to produce any biodiesel' at its facility in Plymouth. Jacob Kingston's home was among a number of places linked to the Kingston group raided by the Internal Revenue Service in February 2016.

At that time, FOX 13 examined Washakie's contributions and found they gave to numerous members of the Utah State Legislature; $5,000 to Governor Gary Herbert's Leadership PAC; $25,000 to the Utah Republican Party; and nearly $40,000 to Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes. Two months later, Washakie gave notice to the state it would cease its political contributions.

LifeTree's lawyers [representing a Singapore conglomerate (RfM Poster)]said it was all "a facade," alleging Washakie failed to produce anywhere near the amount of biofuel it claimed. In their federal complaint, LifeTree included a snippet of a deposition, claiming Kingston could not recall when they last made biofuel.

LifeTree's attorneys accused Kingston and his legal team of refusing to cooperate as they pursued their litigation. But U.S. District Court Judge Clark Waddoups refused to grant their request for sanctions, telling lawyers to move forward with the case."

Paragraph #2 is the biggie here--the political contributions.

This is what you get with one-party rule, whether it's Republicans in Utah or Democrats in Massachusetts. UGH!
