I got the guts of this from Reddit:

Only males doted with the priesthood may "pass the sacrament."

Certain doctrinal genii have determined that a woman is passing the sacrament if she has to move out of her seat, either by sliding over or getting up and walking, even if one step, to reach the person to whom the tray is to be given.

Apparently, some of these genii have fainted when confronted with this moral atrocity! It disrupts the service, not to mention the condemnation heaped upon the transgressing female of the species!

The ghawd of the mormons has seen fit to remedy this situation. Praise Him from whom all, some, or a few blessings flow!

Young Women may now 'pass' the sacrament!

We always had a shortage of ph holders in my ward as a youth. Between the stake president disfellowshipping/excommunicating the youth and an asshat YM prez that held us deacons after sacrament meeting to chastise our behavior, there was always a shortage of qualified men. So I often wondered why the YW couldn't have worn slacks with white shirt and tie.

A bunch of the YW in my cohort were awful. Knowing that the ym would be blamed, a couple of the girls would throw wadded up paper at the teacher during the closing prayer. The teacher became angry and would be looking for giggling smiles and smirks. The teacher would hold the boys and pressure one of us to confess. Since nobody confessed, we all would receive some undeserved punishment. The naughty young women couldn't stop laughing for the mayhem that they created.

Whenever we were short of deacons to pass the "sacrament", the old guys would fill in. They usually fucked it up.

I'm glad you mentioned that.. I was always so bored in Sacrament

meeting that I loved it when the men helped pass the sacrament

because inevitably one of them would screw up and like a chain

reaction , everything would get screwed up. It was a small thing

I know but when you're bored outta your mind ... anything helps.

Teenaged girls still are not permitted to bless the sacrament, but they can carry it to mothers who are nursing in the mother's lounge.

I think church leaders are realizing that passing the sacrament is really just carrying it to church members, not unlike a waitress in a restaurant. Girls are good servants so I can see how the church will allow them to participate in this role of servitude. Nothing for girls/women to be excited about. I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.

It's all such pretentious, meaningless BS.

The odds of me making the trip are 60/40 against... It's freakin' August and it's for a temple wedding to which none of the family has yet received an invitation (21 yr old RM grandson and his magical bride).

Maybe they figured, "Heck fire, none of my apostate aunts, uncles, grandparent (I'm the only living grandparent) nor cousins can go..." And they're relatively poor, so at best, it's a backyard or cultural hall reception...

I blocked the time on my calendar, to keep it free...

In the ward I occasionally attend there are two deacons. So they and three adults pass the sacrament.
