And for reasons unknown, they totally hated gold! The righteous could leave their gold plates lying around without having to worry that they'd be stolen.

The Nephites made their coins out of chocolate. That’s why none have ever been found. Lamanites also have a sweet tooth.

Perhaps Joseph was a forward thinker. These conditions were forming in the early 19th century, giving rise to the robber barons of the late 19th. But he was 19th century enough to not see their benefits. Most Bezos haters still shop Amazon.
