I bought a new computer on Thursday last and have run into something that I've never seen.

This is a Lenovo All-in-One desktop, pretty quick, lotsa storage. I tried to open the DVD drawer on the side and it doesn't have an "open" button.

By Saturday, I had it all set up the way I like and wanted to try the DVD drive and couldn't find any way to open the door and after a phone call, the clerk determined that this one doesn't have a DVD drive, just the door.

Has anyone ever run into this?

I used my computer for years before I found out it had a DVD player. I thought it was a slide-out drink holder.

I had the same problem with missing floppy drives. You can get an external drive for $20 or $30.

I think many of us have gone years without trying to or having to read a DVD. That's what the DVD player we hooked up to the TV is for!

First reaction... Joke, right? I mean, who, oh never mind.

Open the folder icon.
There should be a DVD drive listed under Folder view. It's probably the D drive. Right click there and Eject.

If you don't see the DVD drive in the folder view, under This PC, go to some blank white space at the bottom and right click, Select All Folders. You should now see the other PC drives, like the DVD.

Good luck.

Haven't had cause to use it in the 2 years I've owned it.

Some newer computers don't come with DVD drives, just like some newer cars don't come with spare tires. It's a way to cut costs with the thinking that you can add it later if you want one. It's possible that you have a computer "blank" where the drive would go if you decide to add one later. DVD drives are inexpensive to purchase, but get someone to install it for you and avoid complications. DVDs are slowly becoming obsolete just like the floppy drives did. Or, get an external DVD drive that connects via USB port.

Sometimes people join a church, then realize that there's no Jesus inside. :D

Way to drag this thread into topicsicity!! (I prefer topicsicity to topicness, which just seems too lazy...)

After a couple hours total online with the Lenovo "Help" desk, I discovered that the unit in question DID NOT have a drive, as someone above said. I guess it's a money issue.

I returned today to Office Max where it came from and after I explained what I'd found out, 2 nice employees said that they had never seen or heard of a desktop set up this way.

I can't decide what I'm going to do but for now I've borrowed a laptop from my computer geek son and it doesn't have a drive, which I can understand...

Thanks for the comments
