From the mouth of the profit - the 100 billion dollar prophet.

"HINCKLEY: They're beautiful. They're beautiful. Nothing's too good for the Lord.

These are houses of God devoted to worship. Nothing's too good for Him.

Now, in doing this, we don't neglect humanitarian efforts, welfare efforts, things of that kind."

"KING: When people say that you are a very rich church - financially rich church - where does that come from?

HINCKLEY: Well, that comes from the perception they have of what they see.

KING: It's just a perception.

HINCKLEY: This marvelous building here.

KING: How did it get built?

HINCKLEY: It got built through the tithes of the people. We practice the law of tithing. It works.

It's the Lord's law. He sets it forth in about that many words. You contrast that with the Internal Revenue Code, and note the difference.

But this is the way we ...

KING: You're in favor of a flat tax, then.

HINCKLEY: We - the Church is sustained by the tithes of the people, which are generously given."

"Hinckley:
‘If you count all of our assets, yes, we are well-off. But those assets, you have to know this, are not money-producing. Those assets are money-consuming. Those assets, including meeting houses, churches–thousands of them across the world–they include temples, they include universities, they include welfare projects, they include educational facilities, they include all the missionary work, they include humanitarian work. They include all these things which use money, which don’t produce money. The income of the church comes from the consecrations of the people, who tithe themselves–pay their tithes–the ancient law of the tithe is the church’s law of the manse. And that’s where the money comes which operates the church. If you look at our balance sheet, that shows all the facilities that we have, and the programs we carry. We appear very wealthy. But you must realize that all of those programs consume money, they don’t produce it–that the money which we use comes from the consecrations of the people.’"

Here's one more relevant nugget from Gordon Hinckley.

“We simply think that information [about church finances] belongs to those who made the contribution, and not to the world,” said Hinckley, who died in 2008.

How much did you have to give to get "that information"?

If this $100 billion stash was so great, as the authors of the Deseret News op-ed suggest, why was it necessary to keep it secret?

They weren't keeping it a secret. Any man who wanted to work his way up their ranks or be a good portfolio investment Mormon or lawyer with K(iss)M(y) and Ass. could find out. I wonder if Mitt knew?

Their rank and file didn't need "specific" details. They just needed to know their money was going to the building of a kingdom of God on earth. Reducing it to a number is so not spiritual. It is a useless truth. A "sacred" useless truth.

I suppose the truth is that they just flat out don't care what the members think. The mormon bretheren probably believe that the members are too stupid to know what 100 billion dollars is. or that the third world members will want to take it all and use it because of poverty. So they keep it a secret with just a few select who are related to special SL families, these select few have access to privy information. And these special families maybe will use assets for their own personal gain, I wouldn't be surprised if there are summer homes and building contracts for construction projects going to the special ones.

And anyone who questions the bretheren is an apostate and will go to outer darkness. Remember the milk skimmings lesson? See the GAs are always the victims, and we are the lost souls, and crooks.

EXCELLENT comment. Bravo! It IS the Milk Skimmings for the 21st Century. That is what they do. Keep their incestuous nest egg growing for the club of elites and skim what they can without alerting false prophet alarms.
