OK, I’m old (60+), but I LOVE music from the 90s (Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, STP, Nirvana, etc.)

Oh, and if I ever get to the point where I don’t laugh at Beavis and Butthead, I might as well be dead.

I'm in the older band of GenX. Today my kid told me that I was a boomer while I was watching her live stream a video game on Twitch. She's trying to monetize her stream. I told her I'm not going to subscribe to her channel anymore if she keeps calling me a boomer, to which she said...

Okay, Boomer.

BOOM!

My son does this, too. Crazy!

I'm 62. I remember most of the things everyone has posted so far because my kids grew up in those years. I'm an "older" parent around Utah. My son was just telling me that the other day.

I'd say the good stuff, Beth, was the music from the 1960s and I was only 13 when they ended. I grew up to my brother playing The Doors while we got ready for school (after our dad had left to go teach school in another town). He hated The Doors. My brother saw them in concert at I believe LaGoon (the amusement park by Salt Lake City). We listened to The Rolling Stones also. I remember my sister pretending to play my brother's drums while listening to "Honky Tonk Women" I believe the song is. I actually did get to see Simon and Garfunkel in concert, but that was in 2004. I love Billy Joel and have seen him 5 times in concert. He played Grand Funk Railroad, Black Sabbath, etc., Jimi Hendrix, and whoever had the big red hair--one of the albums had him with his head sticking out of a manhole if I remember right. My memory is shot these days! Frank Zappa--was that his name? Two of my all time favorites are "Riders on the Storm" and "She Lives on Love Street." We worshiped our older brother.

My first concert was "The Osmonds." I wasn't a fan. My neighbor always included us in things she took her kids to and I ended up going to that.

Wanna feel old? My kid is in Perth and going to a 2 day music fest. Here's the line up of 25+ acts. How many do you know. (scroll down a couple of inches to see the full lineup)

Yeah, I knew 2. One because I told her to turn that shit off. Very profane (which is OK in certain places-but not in public), put in your ear buds.

I have three brothers who are 12, 15, and 16 years younger than me. Technically they're half-brothers, but they're my brothers.

One day, two of them picked me up from the train station - they were teenagers at the time. They were driving the Honda station wagon, and they had the explicit version of Big Punisher's "I'm Not A Player" blaring in the car. I didn't want to get in. I begged them to turn it down. They laughed at me, and I slid down the seat as far as I could.

I can relate. Except, you were in a vulnerable position. Needed a ride. I was always the dad when my kid needed a ride. Now, she's travelling the world and I have no input over the crap that her and her friends listen to. The good part is that as fast as some of these "artists" come up, the go away just as fast. But, at least I'm kinda clued in to what she listens to. Sounds like you are too.

I'll hear a song I like, and I'll tell my kid, "Hey - I love this song!" And she'll say, "Yeah, when I first heard it three years ago, I thought, 'Mom would like this song.' "

:/

I subjected her to my music and NPR for 18 years. My only disappointment is that she has no appreciation for the Beatles. Zero. Come to think of it, I don't think she likes Led Zeppelin or any prog rock either. Bummed.

I remember the early 90s,
the fall of berlin wall, the freedom for Poland,
the fall of communism (but it's coming back now like a bad dream).
"Can't we all jus' get along."
Oprah was young.
Jane Polly getting fired for turning 40.
Hillary Clintons with a southern drawl and big hair with bangs, yikes!
New kids on the block lasted 6 months, exactly.
Mc Hammer and Full House!

Those were good times!

I wouldn't have believed you.

I saw Chris Cornell in Spokane July 2016. Then, you know. It's weird because my kid and I were talking about how Soundgarden was the only band where everyone was still alive, even though they broke up, but still.

Scott Weiland used to live here with Duff from GNR. And, you know.

I saw STP open for the Chili Peps in Mountainview CA - maybe 2000ish? Scott was on his game. We left when the RHCPs started. You can't follow that guy.

I saw AIC in Spokane um...maybe three years ago? And my kid and I went to a CD signing in Bellevue at like a Best Buy or something. I get that that promotional stuff gets old and whatnot, but when my kid went up to get their CD signed, they were going through the motions. I said, "Hi, William - this is [my kid]" "[Kid], shake William's hand." "Hi, Jerry - this is [my kid]." "Hey, [my kid], shake Jerry's hand." So that was cool.

I try to see concerts in Spokane because the venue is much smaller. Mudhoney is coming to the Croc in May (hollah!), and I've got tix for that.

Angst is my middle name. We're the first generation that knew that the chances of doing better than our parents were slim. Not impossible, but not the given it used to be.

I saw The Cult in Irvine Amphitheater in 1993ish and Van Hagar at the same place about the same time.

I only like 10 by Pearl Jam. I never got into the rest.

Tiny Music from the Vatican Gift Shop is probably my favorite STP album.

I was never super crazy about Nirvana, but I liked Bikini Kill. Bikini Kill was getting famous, and Cobain and friends would drive to Olympia to see them. He ended up dating Toby Vail. So, yeah - I was a Riot GRRL. If you'd told me that Kathleen Hanna would wind up marrying a Beastie, I would have told you you were nuts. Much love for MCA, though. Much.

Um...I hate Bon Jovi. Can't stand them. But I never admitted that when I lived in Philly and S. Jersey.

Basically the soundtrack to Donnie Darko reminds me of my twenties.

Heathers was one of my favorite movies.

I was in Temecula and felt the Northridge quake - that was a long one. I had just left Oakland to go to San Diego before the Bay Bridge/Earthquake World Series. I was stationed on Shelter Island and at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital for awhile.

In Living Color (Homie don't play that!)

The first Real World where people had their own Real Jobs.

Maybe I wore slouch socks, high-top Filas, acid wash miniskirts, purple acid wash Levis jean jacket, oversize neon Firenze sweat shirts

I had these glasses, but they were off-white with pearl inlays http://www.gafavintage.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Imagen-5.png Mine weren't sunglasses though - they were prescription. I also had ivory colored Cazals.

yah - thought I was Cindy Crawford or Linda Evangelista.

Prince started breaking out with "Purple Rain" (meh) and "Sign o' the Times" damn good.

R&B was amazing. Mariah Carey in a cat suit before plastic surgery. Jennifer Beals was one of the first biracial stars I ever saw in a movie. She looks amazing. I don't know if it's a case of some primo cosmetic surgery or "Black don't crack."

Boys to Men, New Kids on the Block, Salt n Pepa after they dropped the original Spinderella :/ . Um...Queen Latifa, Doug E Fresh, Fat Boys, Rob Base (hahahahahaha).

The Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park (Will Smith filmed part of his "Summertime" video there - I hate that song, but that's the place).

BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD! Yasssss!

Toad the Wet Sprocket! I was playing "Walk on the Ocean" today, and The Toadies "Possum Kingdom."

I think "Walk on the Ocean" was in a movie called "White Squall." That's when I fell in love with that dude from Six Feet Under. Brenda's crazy ass brother. Billy?

Yes, Ren and Stimpy and the Log commercial:

What rolls down stairs, alone or in pairs, rolls over your neighbor's dog?
What's great for a snack, and fits on your back?
It's log log log.
It's looog. looog. It's big, it's heavy it's wood.
It's looog. looog. It's better than bad, it's good!
Everyone wants a log!
You're gonna love it, log!
Log! Log! Log!

Don't whizz on the electric fence.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force

Zelda - like a teeny square person with a hat and bow - oh! having someone take a picture of the screen when you beat a game!

ETA because it's the end of a decade: House Music. <-- the beginning of trance and trip hop.

I hated "Dirty Dancing." I thought it was dumb.

My first concert was when my dad took me to see Marvin Gaye. My second was The Rollings Stones Farewell Tour (HAHAHAHAHA) in 1980something at Veteran's Stadium. My mother said I couldn't go. I entered a radio station's contest and won tickets, and she let me go. I saw The Who maybe the next year? Not sure.

I grew up right off Penn's campus, and I used to go see Rocky Horror at midnight with my friend Vivian. I asked for leather pants and a matching leather jacket for Christmas. My dad bought them for me. I tried them on, and when my parents saw me, they took back the pants but let me keep the jacket. That was kind of messed up.
