One of my favorite ways to aid my recovery is by substitution. I
substitute an activity to replace depression and stressing. I have been a film photographer since 1954.
So when I get all stressed out I get out my 1971 Mamiya RB67 medium format film camera load it with film and go out capturing beautiful landscape images.
The absorption with composing and capturing these images completely wipes out my leanings toward stressing and I heartily recommend it or a similar escapist activity!
It is hard to be creative and obsess with religion at the same time.

"It is hard to be creative and obsess with religion at the same time."

I totally agree with that!

I hope to get back to my creative roots (I was a studio art major back in my college days.)

I assume that you do your own developing? My brother made the basement of our family home into a darkroom. I remember that he had one of my father's old Leicas. It was the shape of a small box, and a silver color, I think?

I had a Yashica on my mission. I'm surprised my brain was able to dredge that up.

I'm guessing that for the vast majority of us, a decent smart phone gives us all we need.

I golfed with a couple a few days ago and they'd gone way out into the Yucca Valley to see the comet Neophyte (joke!) and the photos they took using their iPhones were pretty darn good.

Yes,that is probably true, but to satisfy my artistic/ creative needs I still prefer to shoot with color transparency film. This absorption helps to allow me to forget any religious damage that I may have incurred.

As much as anything...

That's why I love wildcrafting, plant-id(eas), hiking, exploring, mycology, nature-preservating, collecting & gathering, foraging, fishing, photography and simply walking.

Henry David Thoreau said he's scarcely meet two men that have ever gone on a walk (I haven't met any, because they're dead) because "they always know where they're going, and when they're coming back".

Getting lost is rad!
Keep you from going mad.
Don't look for yourself.
LOOK, for yourself.

The whole idea is to be free - as free as Naked Athena? (look what she did!) - from whatever it is, however we can.

We are meant to be FREE together. It doesn't work very well alone. More like All One!
