"It was a time of apocalyptic horrors and people thought the world was going to end in their lifetime, Harvey explained. "In times like this... there were these people [like Strang] who were able to convince other people to cling to them," he said, noting even as an atheist Strang realized he had power over people when he spoke about God. "
I don't think for a second Joseph Smith believed in God.
What I wish more Mormons like my family knew, was that what Joseph was doing and actually quite virtuoso in doing, was sort of on trend for the time with religion being a tool-- as it is today--- to gain the power that has money and sex attached as usual.
Strang aped Joseph in every way including finally believing his own press and dying from the bullet.
So many just don't know when to quit. Like Mormons.

I'm going to listen to it tonight.
Never heard some of this. Never believed in Mormonism. So strange!
Sounds just like Joseph Smith, who sounds just like the devil, as told by Mormonism... when it tells the truth.
It's all A DECK OF CARDS.
If the world knew the truth about Mormonism, and that includes the member-follower-payers (or players with prayers), it would be the laughing stock that it is.
So CLEARLY fabricated, to fleece and enslave the members/ SUPPORTERS.
