So the church put together their too syrupy performance of a very young girl singing "Silent Night" with trusty rusty sitting next to her. Rusty doesn't sing but plays a perfect rendition on a piano.

Maybe I have seen too much TV and movies, but the camera takeaways suggest that he is pretending. Camera angles are either low so the shadows of the piano block a clean view of his hands striking the keys. Other shots that are high don't show his hands in action either. The only time a view shows hands playing, a man's face is blurred. Hmmm. [see the clip for yourself].

I personally don't care if he can play a piano or not, but why the deception?

There's another part of the piano scene that I like where his head is framed by a border of indoor "red" lights. Stan the man!

but why the deception?

Isn't it all about deception?

There’s not enough there to tell if he’s playing the piano or not. Could be.

But he sure does nail that high note at 1:01:55 in the recording.

This is the show must go on, and on, and on until the fat cherubim sing.

"These amazing creatures are associated with God’s power, presence, and holiness. Isn’t it wonderfully humbling to think that we will be there one day, and see them, and join them in singing the praise He is so worthy of,

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!” "

as I understand, learning & playing an instrument (on tune, ha ha) is associated with higher intelligence / better performance of certain tasks.

Has anyone seen an essay on this?

so it wouldn't surprise me to learn that individuals in intellectual careers learned music in their formative years.

My 8-year-old can play Silent Night--probably the same version of it.

All the doctors in my family play musical instruments. There are a lot of jokes about doctors playing in string quartets.

Some studies have shown that children who take music lessons get better grades--but that could be for many reasons. For example, these children get more attention from their parents, have more confidence, can perform better under pressure, have hereditary musical talents, join in their family's interest in music, etc. etc.

All this video proves is that Rusty can give an 8-year-old's performance, and therefore is as intelligent as an 8-year-old.

Yeah, a closeup of their faces has better "heartsell" than a shot of Russ's fingers--but--eeeeeyikes--he doesn't exactly have a loving, beautific, fatherly face. He was more of a sharp contrast to the little girl, rather than appearing equally sweet.

That was funny! Thanks for the laugh!

Wasn't this during the time when doctors and scientists were begging families NOT to meet in family gatherings indoors? Did Russel's camera and sound entourage wear masks, I wonder? Maybe they had the little singer girl tested right before.

I think playing an instrument is more difficult to learn as an adult; Russ could have done this but mostly if he started as a youth...

Global Faith Leader then piano player ???

I noticed that the left hand in the piano close-up is not wearing a wedding ring.

Maybe that's the sure-sign of the New Covenant

It's not exactly a difficult arrangement. In fact very simple. If you watch his face he is concentrating and mouthing the words like a 95 year old would do while thinking about what he is doing.

That being said I don't like the man. He has all the human warmth as a NAZI proctologist

He isn't playing in the audio track, but he may have been playing in the video track.

Specifically: his fingers are on the right chord and correct melody note at the correct time, but his left hand is depressing keys that aren't sounding in the audio. The audio track was most likely recorded separately and spliced in, and if that's the case you can bet it wasn't Rusty playing.

Also, dear god little girl: stop listening to Miley Cyrus and think about your vowels.

I thought he was just not hitting those keys hard enough to sound and they filtered them out with EQ when they polished up the video, but I'm not a pianist. My wife commented viewers may need an insulin injection after all that sweetness from the little girl.

That could be. He was playing in the same key as the audio.

One of my neighbors is an organist. He attended an organ seminar in Salt Lake and Russell M Nelson was one of the participants. He said Russ was a pretty good keyboard player.
