I have been having a bad day. My thoughts have wandered to the deception of so-called priesthood blessings. By definition The priesthood is the power to act in God's name. Therefore if this power is bestowed on someone and they pronounce a cure using that power the it stands to reason that God would be obligated to enact the cure. If a cure is not forthcoming then the person administrating the blessing did not have the power of attorney to act in the name of God or the power does not, in fact, exist. It should not have anything to do with the recipient's faith. You either have the power or you do not have the power. If you claim the power and don't have it you are a liar and a deceiver. When my wife was suffering from lung cancer the bishop who was called in to give a healing blessing instead blessed her with an OK to die. I rest my case! The ritual didn't work. It has no healing power!
She did die however

Like so much in Mormondumb, it's a "heads I win, tails you lose" situation.
If a priesthood blessing is given, and the person recovers, it's proof of the divine power of the priesthood.
If the person doesn't recover: 1) if they die, it was the time appointed by God for them to move on, or 2) if they don't die, but still suffer from the illness or injury, God wants them to learn a lesson, or wants them to learn patience, or they didn't have enough faith, or the blessing was given by someone who masturbated or looked at porn.

In any case, the power of the priesthood is true! RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sometimes ask TBM’s that if they had a child or loved one in the hospital, with a serious condition. Would you rely on a priesthood blessing or the doctors (and you have to quickly say “and you can’t say both, it’s just one or the other). Some will change the subject , and some say it’s a ridiculous question a few will say “the doctors.” But, no one, so far, has said priesthood blessing only. Try it sometime, it at least gets them thinking.
