James robinson 1978 edition of The Nag Hamadi library.
If I remember correctly it casts a new light on the legends and annals of Jesus Christ.
I will probably bore all of you with my interpretation of what I discover.
Have any of you actually studied these ancient writings?

I suspect that it easily qualifies as a fetish.

Like playing golf more than once a week...

The Gospel According to Thomas, at the least, is certainly interesting.

The Nag Hamadi requires a large amount of concentration.
It is an alternative aproach to the Jesus christ story and up for interpretation!

If this stuff sparks your interest, and you want to do a deep dive into the Gnostics specifically, read Hans Jonas before reading anything newer on the subject:

The Gnostic Religion: the message of the alien God and the beginnings of Christianity

The only parts that I recall were the Epistles of Clement and the gospel of Thomas.

The others were hard to get through and a lot were badly fragmented.

For me, it was simply another variation on the myths. If you believe the religious stories of that time and place, it might leave you wondering if the dominant version was the right one or just the dominant one. Of course, the dominant one would claim they're the correct one and the others are wrong, so you can't just take their word for it.

True or not, I like the Lilith story (hurray for strong, independent women), and the Gnostic take on Satan, that he wants us to know the truth of Yahweh's shenanigans.
