My last job in the CULT was in the Stake Sunday School Presidency, going around evaluating Sunday School teachers. I never bought into young Earth creationism and always accepted science and scientific evidence. In one Sunday School class a young adult asked the teacher, “What about dinosaurs, who lived millions of years before the Bible says God created the Earth and all the life on it? The teacher gave the bullshit answer you gave, “God created the Earth from the remains of other planets, so those ‘fossils’ archeologists claimed to have found, are merely aliens from other planets.’
I wrote a note to the teacher, telling him, “we really can’t speculate beyond what we actually know because students are intelligent and they can always go Google the answer themselves and figure out you are wrong, and you are just giving them a good reason to doubt the church.”
The Stake Sunday School President, who was my wife’s OB/Gyn took issue with me telling the teacher that. I wouldn’t back down. He asked how I’d answer that question. I told him I’d tell the class true religion and true science are not in conflict and that BYU actually teaches evolution and has a well respected Paleontology Museum that has all kinds of dinosaur fossils from all over Utah. MORmON scientists don’t believe the Earth is only 6,000 years old, that is a misinterpretation of the Bible.
He argued that Joseph Smith clarified in the D&C that the Earth was only 6,000 years old. I challenged him to name one LDS scientist who believed that. He claimed Henry Eyring believed in a young Earth. I argued just the opposite and sent him the proof to back up my argument.

This culminated with him telling me it was fine for me to have my doubts, but if I ever shared them with other Mormons, he’d have to discipline me.
I asked him,’Even my wife and kids?”
He replied,‘Especially your wife and kids!” (Most of whom he delivered)
Which is the point at which I handed him my resignation and told him,”Nobody has the right to tell me to be dishonest with my wife and kids!”
