Okay when the apostle washes feet does he just scoot the same bowl down the line of seated people? Is the foot bowl plastic, metal or ceramic? Does he give a little pedicure while he is at it? Last question. Does he have knee pads? I am trying to process this in my mind.

I think its important to make sure your feet are dirty before you go or what's the point?

Is it appropriate to offer a gratuity?

Has anyone seen any "Before & After" photo sets on Faithbook?

No. Tips are included in the "all inclusive" fees charged for admission to the club.

If you find the foot treatment exceptionally well done, a simple "Thank you, you're doing a great job" is sufficient.

Maybe a spray bottle with some bleach. and I think he would wear surgical gloves. It sounds very spiritual.

While we're at it, an anti-fungal treatment, too.

Thank you. One more question.
You said you wore a "Temple Robe".
Was this any different from the typical temple clothes?

Thanks.
You can tell which podcast I am listening to.

No, same temple clothing we wear in the celestial room. We wore our own robes.

If you happen to drop back in Tom, I'd love to know if the Apostle doesn't sit on a little stool--probably velvet and the chairs the anointed sit in aren't raised up? And do they look a bit like thrones?

I mean, at that age everyone has a bad back and bad knees. Or do you just put your foot in the air like a chorus girl?

You do sit in a comfortable chair, I am not sure it is a throne.

The apostle kneels down at the bowl to perform the washing. I could imagine some apostles, at their age, using a stool. However mine was done almost 20 Years ago, when Ballard was "only" 73 years old.

At the risk of derailing this discussion, I'm wondering if the apostle could use a foot washing machine similar to those golf course Ball washing machines?

Those ball washers at the course work great,…….but they kinda hurt.

Now, there's an extra reason to become a podiatrist. You could volunteer to perform the ordinance and maybe pick up a few new patients.

Prior to my mission in the early 80s I had a toenail problem. It required a minor surgical treatment. The prep included a 5 minute foot scrub with a brush and special cleansing agent focusing on the problem area. Prior to the anaesthetic.

The nurse performing the wash brought a timer. She explained that people thought the wash was going over long.

The first minute was pleasant.

Around 90 seconds it became over stimulation.

Two minutes I was feeling antsy and squirmy. It only gets worse. And worse.

5 minutes can be surprisingly long for a foot washing.

Here’s an SLC Tribune article (from 2014) about Tom Phillips taking Monson to court:

https://archive.sltrib.com/article.php?id=57500721&itype=CMSID

Excerpts:

"Men may believe what they cannot prove," Justice William O. Douglas wrote in the case. " ... Many take their gospel from the New Testament. But it would hardly be supposed that they could be tried before a jury charged with the duty of determining whether those teachings contained false representations."

“Any body of scripture, including the Book of Mormon and Book of Abraham, "is constitutionally protected in the United States," Gordon said. "Historical claims in scripture are not subject to judicial investigation."

“Colleen McDannell, a professor of history and religion at the University of Utah, agrees.

"If everything a religion said was brought to a court of law, it would tie up the courts for eternity," McDannell said. "What religion doesn't have outrageous claims?"

That last comment made me laugh!

The article lists the teachings at issue in the court case:

“Mormon teachings cited as "untrue or misleading" in the summons to LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson:

“The Book of Abraham is a literal translation of Egyptian papyri by Joseph Smith.

“The Book of Mormon was translated from ancient gold plates by Smith. It is the most correct book on Earth and is an ancient historical record.

“Native Americans are descended from an Israelite family, which left Jerusalem in 600 B.C.

“Joseph and Hyrum Smith were killed as martyrs in 1844 because they would not deny their testimony of the Book of Mormon.

“The Illinois newspaper called the Nauvoo Expositor had to be destroyed because it printed lies about Joseph Smith.

“There was no death on this planet before 6,000 years ago.

“All humans alive today are descended from just two people who lived approximately 6,000 years ago.”

I wasn’t aware of most of this information about Mormon beliefs when I stupidly traipsed into the temple to be baptized, or even afterwards. In fact, I didn’t find out the bulk of it until an exmo pal directed me to RfM.

I’ll have to look up the rest of the story – what happened with Tom’s law suit. I’m going to guess it went nowhere because Monson served as leader until his death and Mormonism stands. But such actions as Tom’s suit can certainly be revelatory in a way Mormon leaders are not.

All the best to Tom. Mormonism cost him much.

These comments were made by US people about US law. My criminal prosecution was filed under UK law.

The judge in this case was completely wrong. I can only assume he was 'got at' by the mormon church.

Under UK law the Supreme Court (of the UK) ruled that religions were not exempt from criminal prosecution and the non justiciable argument failed. This was a few month after my case although the judge should have known this was being considered.
