I place a great deal of confidence in Maslow's hierarchy of needs

https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=maslow%27s+hierarchy+of+needs

Is this currently accepted by the professional world?

what about us as former Mormons; Does this fit our view of 'things LDS'?

I think it’s just common sense. When you are starving all you care about is getting something to eat. Talk to anyone who served in a nasty war zone. They will tell you, they don’t care about the politics or the reasons why the war happened. They care about surviving.

It’s only when people are comfortable and have the luxury of time when people start to think beyond the immediate needs. It’s why tyrants love to start wars, keep people poor and keep people busy.

Without self actualization the other layers add up to just existing and surviving same as any creature on earth and their pursuit can do a lot of damage.

I saw this play out in the pre-operative holding area. I was the nurse helping families to sign consents, get ready, wait, make big decisions.

Sometimes the families were being--what looked like--unreasonable.

That's when I would ask, "Do you need to use the restroom?" "Can you step out for food?" If I saw cigarettes, I'd ask if they needed a few minutes to smoke.

They would come back changed humans.

We all resort to our lizard brain when our basic needs aren't met.

“If we’re warm, hydrated and well fed, we’ll mostly either do what’s easiest and makes us look our best, keeping in mind that “our best” is an ideal constantly in flux.

“Of course, you will regularly toss out the above if there is a course of action that will get you laid.”

--Judic West, genuinely caring warm human being, if it’ll get him laid

I think TBM decisions are about the church's needs. Apparently, they need money. The $100B doesn't count, that's Jesus's money. When Jesus comes back, he's going to need a new wardrobe and private jet for his entourage.

There's also the Holy Ghost. TBMs are supposed to follow promptings of the spirit. That's a little outside Maslow's area of expertise.
