I remember when growing up in London there was virtually no where to purchase milk other than from the milkman who delivered daily. We also had daily bread delivery. Both delivered from a horse and cart. The bread delivery was the first to and some time in the 50s the horse and cart gave way to the electric cart. Seems there was some controversy after Britain joined the then Common Market because some European farmers argued that because they did not have a delivery system in their countries it gave an unfair advantage to British dairy farmers in overall competition. Probably not the reason why home deliveries have declined in a major way. Did read the other day that home deliveries have increased somewhat due to Covid bringing in general a return to home derliveries of all sorts of things.
