Mormon Mom comes out as a sex worker on HuffPo and the geriatrics warming their thrones in the COB penthouse are probably sh!t!ng bricks at the moment!

She's a little naive if she thinks that the Church wants anything whatsoever to do with opening a dialogue about sexuality. The Church doesn't take kindly to anyone who thinks they can help to push the Church into the modern age.

I have absolutely no problem with her career choices. I do, however, worry about how her going public will affect her children and their social relationships.

I too worry about her kids. If all this is legit, and she's really engaging her kids in TSCC, then they are going to be indoctrinated and likely suffer, and even be upset and angry themselves. What she's doing may not be explicitly against "the rules," but the morg is a cult of conformity, if nothing else, and her behavior clearly violates all the unspoken rules. Given the social implications, from that perspective, she might as well be a prostitute.

Consider: the men all have "porn addictions." She's generating "porn." i.e. she's the problem. She's a "home wrecker," and TSCC is [ostensibly] all about the family. Some women drag their priesthood holders to church in order to have some form of authority to keep them in line, and now there's this "brazen hussy" in their midst. It won't stand!

She didn't say she was having sex so sex worker isn't what she is. She is the poster child for all the Mormon men who don't cheat on their wives but look at porn.

I know from my brother that porn isn't going to get you exed, disfellowshiped, or discipline. You will get another calling because you obviously have time for it.

A penishood holder's consequence for viewing porn often depends upon his bishop and SP.

I'd love to read about someone excommunicate or even disfellowshipped for porn and masturbation. It would be enlightening if it were a commonality in the exmormon collective experience.

I can offer two accounts, one from a close friend and the other from a cousin.

The close friend. Her husband was asked by a new bishop about pornography, answered honestly, and was subjected to "probationary disfellowship." I have never heard of such a punishment before, but that's what she said. He lost (or was relieved of) his church assignments and could not take the sacrament anymore, and my friend said he could not give prayers in meetings. I do not know when or if he got his "privileges" back.

My cousin. Already an adult man, married and with children, his not unusual compulsions were reported to his bishop and then stake president. They worked with him for a lengthy period of time, then held a court and excommunicated him. He and his wife came to believe he was evil and lacking in self-control. She divorced him, and he said he deserved what happened to him. His father, who is quite high in the church, agreed.

I was appalled by the whole thing. The man and his family accepted what the church did not only to him but to them as well. And it had been a good marriage. . .

"Sex worker" includes the production and sale of photos and videos of a sexual nature, whether solo or with another/others. What she does definitely falls under that rubric.

I don’t know what you call someone who pleasures themselves on camera for money, but pretty sure it involves sex, and they’re getting paid, so that’s ‘work’. Sex worker is how she identifies herself. That’s seems to describe her job pretty well, bout more importantly, she’s a mom, and a lot of guys apparently are into that. Especially Mormon guys. Utah is the perennial leader in p0rn subscribers. Despite their thin straight edger veneer of politeness and super morality, Mormons are some of the least ‘moral’ people I know, who proudly sing the praises of a man who had his way with 34 women and teenage girls.
Looking the other way and neither seeing, hearing or speaking evil is a way of life for Mormons.

I don’t know about her not understanding Mormonism. She certainly speaks fluent Mormonese, and has that sound of cheerfully smug self-righteousness that I’ve seen in Mormons whose business practices ( think MLM) fall somewhere between misdemeanor and felony. So she fits right in, except her business practices sound pretty legal.

And yes, that would meet the definition of sex worker. There was a woman in SLC who did a TEDx talk about 4 or 5 years ago about being a sex worker, in the more traditional sense, for you purists. She was LDS and married. She was on a panel discussion about 6 months later, talking about her work/customers, and incidentally talking about how terrifying it was giving that talk at Kingsbury Hall at the UofU. She has marched in several SLC Pride parades, and advocates for legal protections and unionization for sex workers. I think City Weekly did a story on her.

And I have mentioned here before my fave exMo, Natacha Rambova (Wikipedia her), not a sex worker per se, but a very colorful character for 1900s Utah.

So Ms HuffPo is neither the first, nor unique in coming out.

Many years ago when I was missionary in Europe, we had an "investigator" who was a sort of a famous social advocate for sex workers. She went to great lengths to explain the social dynamics of women who get involved with the business. Phone sex was just becoming a thing and she was adamant that real "working girls" were not strippers or phone actors. YMMV. The internet then was only the domain of university scientists and military operatives.

We invited her to attend church and one visit and the law of chastity discussion was enough to quench her interest. I sometimes thought she just enjoyed blowing the minds of us innocent Mormon boys.

Couple thoughts...

I don’t have any problem with what she’s doing. But, man, “exploring my sexuality” is quite the euphemism. I’d say “selling my sexuality” is a better fit.

She sounds like a shovinest, as she takes such pride in herself for what she does for a living. Too each his or her own? No, imo, this is far beyond that, as she is so proud of herself and what others might think about her.

I think (again) that she is, simply stated, looking for others to notice her, and hoping they will pass judgment on her so she can glote more over her self. To me, she is a sad mess--espcially in that she is still raising her children. Moreover, it appears that they are her least concern. :-(
