Mormons talk a lot about spirituality. Having the Spirit. Being guided by the Spirit. Spiritual living. Blah blah blah. That’s not necessarily unique. But what sets Mormonism apart is the importance it places on the body. Their deity has a body. We’ll have bodies in the afterlife. Couples should be making bodies for waiting spirits. Your body is a temple. And so on.

Jesus said to forsake fleshly desires and seek the things of the spirit. But JS seems to have said, “Um, hold on there. I love the things of the flesh (particularly the flesh of young women). Live forever without a body? What fun is that?” And face it, the church was a sex cult for a while.

Modern Mormons seem unable to quit thinking about bodies, how you cover them, what you put in them, what you do with them, what everyone else does with them…

IMO, this is not just a Mormon thing, that is to say, since everyone born has a body to deal with--that's what we mortals do--with a lot of help from our parents, at first.

After we can do for our self, then that is what we do.

Haven't you noticed?

The earthly body, in Mormonism and other religions, is given from God. You don't own it, and everything you do with it must serve his purposes. (But how do you tell the difference between God's desires, and those of Mr. Oaks and his ilk?)

I'd rather own myself, than be subordinate to weirdos like god, Mr. Nelson, and Mr. Holland, thanks.
