From the article:

(RNS) — A master’s program in speech-language pathology at Brigham Young University — the Provo, Utah, school operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — is under a formal accreditation review after it stopped providing a speech therapy service used by transgender clients to adapt their new voices.

Gale Rice, chair of the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, said in a March 29 letter that the body is proceeding with an investigation to determine if the master’s program remains in compliance.

Darn. It's getting harder and harder to get away with treating people badly.

Yay.

Incalculable damage can occur within someone's psyche if they are deemed not worthwhile, shunned, rejected for their very being.

That's why the worthy/unworthy designation used by the Mormon Church (among others) is so potentially destructive. Everybody wants to belong. Nobody wants to be judged. Especially if the harsh judgement of being unworthy is rendered.

And especially when in the Mormon Church (and others) leaders don't bother much about keeping it private, if callings and 'privileges' are withdrawn. You may hate your calling but you don't want it to be removed in front of everybody.

The JWs, for instance, actually announce from the pulpit (they call it 'platform' iirc because pulpit sounds too much like other churches that they hate) that Brother This or Sister That has been disfellowshipped (disciplined and/or kicked out). Too, you are considered disfellowshipped if you voluntarily leave the WatchTower organization. That's their way of making sure no other JWs speak to you (not allowed). Because bad influence (i.e. they may think you have a good reason for leaving and follow your example - cannot have that happening).

Yeah. Treating People Badly R Us should be the sign outside some church buildings, I'm sorry to say.
