99.9% sure it was a conference talk where he basically said that if you don't believe in it, but can find some inspiration or wisdom in the BOM then it is OK to be active in the church as a NOM.

Sound familiar to anyone?

I'm thinking this was in the 2011-2014 time frame.

I think ChurchCo is somewhat in a bind as to their posture with individuals who are less than TBMs, family members especially but love & loving, empathy & compassion have Never been their strong point.

That idea seems to be more along the lines of the Givens. They were making the rounds on the Mormon circuit telling people to believe what they want as long as they keep the core Mormon beliefs.

Gordon B Hinckley said a person can have all the personal beliefs they want but at church only he has the authority to speak for the church. So in the church setting you follow the prophet. It's a clever way of saying publicly you tow the church's line but in private who can do your thing.
