100 billion could do a lot here.

"This includes reducing hunger and poverty, providing basic health care, improving livelihood through education (especially for youth and women) and preserving the planet through sustainable development."

Pisses me off. Common values eh? Why isn't Jesus' fund helping in the common causes here?

Sure, a few billion dollars could ease suffering and help people but….hey, look at us, we’re posing with leaders of other faiths in Saudi Arabia. That means we’re a worldwide church!

That money could fix every cleft palate in the world.

Imagine what it could do just for members only, you know the ones contributing to their fund.

The church definitely shares common values with Saudi Arabia: a patriarchal, misogynistic culture; a theocratic-style political system; and a heavy emphasis on female "modesty" and tight control of sexual behavior.

"Perkins also shared how the Church is working for interfaith understanding, such as its 'Muslims and Latter-day Saints pamphlet' and conference"

Ooh, a pamphlet! They wrote a pamphlet! What a remarkable effort! Such commitment to the cause!

Exactly. I thought the same. Mormonism with it's spiritual partner.

As pointed out in one of John Dehlin's podcasts, the church leaders do not see themselves in the eradicating poverty business. They see their main job as preparing the earth for the return of Jesus by building up the Kingdom ready to receive him. Any alleviation of suffering is a welcome side effect.

The quote says reducing poverty. How are they doing?

I’ve realised the mormon church /mormons believe that the answer to all the world’s problems is for everyone to become mormon. It’s a handy way of dismissing complex world issues and human suffering. Additionally, mormons live a prosperity gospel, so there is a tendency to equate righteousness with wealth, and by association, an underlying theme that poverty and need is associated with a lack of righteousness. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why the church having billions doesn’t bother mormons who know about it.

It is just a show. Literally the LDS church isn't know for it's charity but it's welfare system.
