I saw this posted on the Exmormon Reddit thing-a-ma-jig:

https://rumble.com/v1gwsu3-the-true-story-of-mormon-president-gordon-b.-hinckley.html

I have a hard time thinking that the accusations are true. If Gordy was doing this as an apostle, his judgement would be incredibly bad. I mean, holy crap reckless levels of lapse of judgement. Who is to say what human hubris can lead people to do though?

From GenCon Nov 2004 Gordy gave a talk that has bothered me for its far-fetched possibilities that someone would write in and go into specifics about a porn and fidelity problem. He prefaces the talk that he has taken editorial liberties -- what ever that means. If you have the stomach for it, listen to the forst half of this talk:

Is this a veiled partial confession? Did he write the letter?

I hate it when there are letters read in conference that have to be taken on faith that someone 'real' wrote it and is not a Holland-type story that is to manipulate me.

It is interesting that Marjorie passed away 6 months prior to this talk.

I know the human experience includes the capacity to feel invincible and derive or feel powerful enough to do things they feel they can get away with. If there is some truth to these accusations in the video, might Gordy be reveling that is is going on in plain sight of some he feels some power over?

I don't buy the claims in the video, and wish knowing the truthfulness of this would have a mechanism better than 'feeeeeeling' the truthfulness of it. I suppose if I prayed about it, I would have biases that Gordy would not want in a court of law or even a church court.

So, in conclusion, I cannot just accept these accusations. They are probably false. Something is nagging me about them though where I don't think that can be completely discounted. We will never know the veracity of it though.

His response to Mike Wallace asking him if he was a prophet: "I am sustained as such."

What does that mean?

"No, but I play one on TV." or

"A lot of gullible people think so."

I was TBM at the time and found it confusing. Was I just insulted?

Sorry, I’m going to go slightly off topic here.

As a TBM, it always bothered me when GAs read letters in General Conference, because we members (commoners) were told specifically not to write to GAs.

"They are probably false. Something is nagging me about them though where I don't think that can be completely discounted."

As much as I dislike GAs, in the current political climate where victims are sacrosanct and believed purely for the sake of "hunting witches", I have no problem completely discounting them.
