So they just set apart the new SP in my old stake. 2 medical doctors and an optometrist, all former bishops....go figure. The 1st Councillor was the bish when I resigned and was the dude that called to ask "if I was certain of my decision". He's also the sleep specialist I saw a week ago.

Gotta love southern Alberta Mormons. I have almost moved to Lethbridge three times. Is there a lot of Mormons there just like the other towns? I know when I was looking to see what Ward and seminary I was in, it seems like there were a lot of wards.

I think there are 11 regular wards an a couple single adult wards. Lethbridge has 96K population now so not too saturated. The Moridor, from Stirling to Glenwood is a different story.

Similar here. Guy who got called, by bednerd, last fall, was the bishie who called to see if I was sure of mine (ASS - apostrophe status schedule). He was also the man, earlier in the year, accompanying the missionaries, knocking on a friend's door at 9 p.m. when they knew I was away, some years ago to try to convert them... until they got chased off by the unmistaken call of religious anti-culters (they didn't know another friend was visiting that night who also didn't care for the impromptu would be preacher's spill), and more recently, one of the doctors being investigated for medical fraud. They move up the ladder pretty quick sometimes and just want to get higher (hired). Their smugness has got to help/ (hurt!).

I know two of the new stake presidency fairly well. The SP is a good doctor (his father is our family doctor) and the second Councillor was the bishop when my dad passed away and did OK with handling the funeral.

All of this sounds familiar. Calvin, the dad, retired and went to Mongolia (because conversions are low there?). His two surviving boys -- David and James -- are also doctors. Of course, the girl got married and didn't join "the family business." James was my doctor and supposedly one of the very best. However, every story I have about him starts, "I like him, but..."

I didn't know James was a doc too. Cal had two other sons, Brian and Gerry who disappeared in Russia while mountain climbing in 2003. It is presumed they fell into a crevasse. Their bodies were never recovered.

LR, did you know this family? I've been trying to find someone who can answer dumb nevermo questions, but I don't want to say a lot online -- especially since the people have been named. Can we talk (maybe email?) in a more private way?

Cal was our family doctor for 20 years before he retired and went on the medical mission to Mongolia with his wife. And he returned to medical practice and as our family doctor last October to fill in for Dr. Vern Jubber who has gone to S. Africa to supervise medical care for mishies in East Africa for 18 months. Dave has had me as a patient and Cal's late son Brian was a school mate of my son and they played basketball together and our farms are about 5 miles apart so yes, I know the family pretty well.

Dave Stewart is as good as they come. A sincere believer, trying his best to be as Christian as he can, and with a heart of gold.

The church would be a better place (though still a fraud) if it had more folks like Dave in positions of responsibility.
