"From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered, We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he today that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition: And gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here And hold their manhoods cheap while any speaks That fought with us upon St. Crispin's Day.
Henry V
Just getting ready for the big game tomorrow with part of what is arguably the most stirring speech in literature.
I messed up the time (that math thing again!). Instead of it being in the middle of my nighttime I'm just about to enjoy the first half with my brekkie at quite a decent Saturday morning hour.
The sports commentators are predicting a high-scoring game. That will be exciting.

Go England! (Sorry, Tom.) The French team has the best uniforms, though. So I will award them the fashion points. :) It should be a good game. The quarterfinals yesterday (Croatia/Brazil, Netherlands/Argentina) were wonderful.
France is favored but these players are very familiar with each other so there is little intimidation factor involved. The English press has been full of the need to control Mbappe but I think the game could hinge on how well Griezmann is held down. One thing I believe about tournaments is that it is not always the best team that lifts the trophy. As an aside, I wish I had a dime for each of the extra 27 million pints that will be downed in England during the game.
As the bard said in Henry V "For Harry (Henry), England, and St. George."
I am in the same predicament with a prior engagement. Might see the first few minutes and will make very effort not to check the score so I can watch a recording.
Just saw the end of the Portugal versus Morocco game. Who would have thought it? Portugal loaded with far more individual talent unable to break down Morocco's parked bus.
As we have recently added a Moroccan to the family (he married my elder daughter ;-), we're quite please about that result. Even if France lose, we'll have someone to support.
Arrgh! Good game. I liked that the English stopped being so **** polite given France's physicality. If only England had gotten at least one of those penalty kicks.
Yeah, Harry got the first, missed the second, and an additional player missed the third one. Sterling? I can't recall. Well, they had their chances. That second, missed goal is going to haunt Harry.
The big surprise to me was that Mbappe seemed to have a relatively quiet game.
IMO by the time you get to a WC quarterfinal, it's going to be physical. It just took a while for the English to give back as good as they were getting.

I did get to see the first half but could not resist checking the score so have not seen the second. Thought the first goal for France might have been stopped if Pickford had been a little quicker off the mark. Several things stuck out in my mind in that half but they are all water under the bridge to the final result. France now appear to be the favorite but, nothing against France, I would be thrilled to see little Croatia win through. I am not into greatest player of all time stuff because usually only goal scorers are considered. For me Modric ranks up there with the best.
