Yep. Greed, hypocrisy, shame and control thrive in organized religion with few checks and balances since religion generally is off limits to criticize. Some of those comments were heartbreaking.

Those comments were just the tip of the corrupt iceberg.

I'm shocked! This just couldn't be. I'm sure all those people are lying. Religious leaders just wouldn't do those things. Ever!

Did like the one on Prop 8 in California.

A few others could easily be MoronicPriesthood, inc related.

Every religious group seems to have a problem with control. Both from the top and especially with certain members. A very thin line between gentle persuasion and a lynch mob.

Your post reminded me of my favorite televangelist, Ernest Angley. Does anybody remember this tool? Say Jeez-us

LOL. I remember him. What a piece of work! My favorite is still Benny Hinn. He's better than a stand up comedian. I can't believe how many people get sucked into these TV and Mega evangelists. It's such obvious grifting and of course, they send in their money.

Yes. This piece reminds me very much of Oral Roberts' request for $100,000 in the late 1980s "or the Lord would send me home." The conservative commentator Paul Harvey responded on his radio show by reciting a bumper sticker that said: "Save Your Money. Send Oral Home." I wish more conservatives had that view today.

I also agree about the tragedy that so many people believe these grifters. While there are a lot of possible reasons for this, I suspect that one of the biggest is they *want to believe even if (and this is certainly not true in all cases) they know better.
