Here's an account of a recent conference held at an Evangelical megachurch in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The grifters were out to fleece the true believers for as much money as they could get.

Wow. There will always be a good percentage of people who fall for this stuff. Humans will never learn, as P. T. Barnum well knew. Too bad "A fool and his money are soon separated" isn't scripture. Throw in God and you've got your hook.


These two paragraphs especially resonated from my Mormon observations:

“The evangelical community has been one of the more susceptible groups that have been so infected by [pyramid scheme-adjacent practices], and still is today,” Robert FitzPatrick, author of Ponzinomics: The Untold Story of Multi-Level Marketing, told The Guardian last year. “It spreads through churches, and is presented with this moral authority: You are told not to argue with anybody who criticizes it, they are non-believers.”

Wealth-seeking is your Christian duty, they said, considering God loaded the ground with valuable minerals for us to discover; Genesis 2:10-12 validates that claim.

It's OK. They love homosexuals.

And Muslims.

If I‘m not mistaken, that grifting has been done, and continues to be done on a national scale, and there are so many Evangelicals who worship grifters as if they were deity.

No excuse but independent churches answer to no one but the pastor and associates and often have no denominational restraints. Probably a nice fee to the church.

Yes, Christianity is not composed of one cohesive group.

That fact confused me when I first went to church because I didn't understand why there could be so many different interpretations of the same concept and all the various differing emphases by the individual churches.

I understand it's easy for outsiders to take a look at the gigantic glob of it all and assume it's one big mess. But in many places there's order in the seeming chaos.

In other groups not so much perhaps.

And some, unfortunately, are run by self-serving huckster types.

They taint the whole thing.

This place is not far from me. There was a huge uproar this spring when several school districts host graduation ceremonies there.

Based on their published beliefs I would not care who was speaking I would not set foot in the place
