If you want to find an LDS chapel on its locator, you have to allow Google access to your location and to dump all its cookies onto your computer/phone.

If you want to find out local information you have to go onto Facebook, which is another big tech spysite. Facebook does little but steal people's information and build up a profile into them.

Neither of those things happen when I use the site. My OS throws up a dialog whenever a site wants to use my location. No dialog from the LDS church locator. Nor does it redirect to a FB page when I expand a ward’s info.

Their locator uses google maps for their map display, but I hardly consider that “deep in big tech”. It does not center on my location when I open it. It comes up on the same location it was at the previous time I closed it, so yes, it does store a cookie of the last location searched.

Conspiracy much? The Church was a real straggler when it came to the Internet. The 15 pointy-haired bosses don't care about your data or know what to do if they had it.
