I love whoever made this video. I can't even find the words for that kind of arrogance and smug self importance. I did see it first hand when Mark E. Petersen came to our house after dedicating our new chapel. Even as a kid I could see the benevolence was an act and I knew he was slumming it to be there. His wife wasn't even faking it. Why didn't that wake me up?

"They were all standing until they were given permission to sit by the white man in authority." lol

Joseph F Smith did away with the standing thing.

It was reintroduced after his death.

Joseph F Smith also said the church would no longer require cash tithing once it paid off its debts.

Too bad he didn't live long enough to implement that.

When I was a child, I paid tithing in gerbils.

I collected food as fast offerings.

Lots of older folks, especially widows, gave from their gardens or food storage.

I was born in the wrong time and place to see that, but it's remarkable to think that tithing in kind was still practiced so recently.

I wonder if JS would have accepted tithing in kind from hookers.

Gary is looking a little tubby. Time for a walk on one of those treadmills that made him so wealthy.

This happened when I was a new convert in Illinois. GAs seldom came that far out in the "missions field" so we didn't know we were supposed to stand. Someone came out and instructed us to stand. I thought it was pretty lame tradition. Why weren't we instructed in church when we were told about the visit? It wasn't even the prophet. He really meant very little to us converts.

I'm happy to tell you all (again, for many) that in early July of 1965, not only did I not stand up when Joseph Fielding Smith entered the room, but I also flipped him 'the bird.'  And it wasn't covertly; I held up my right arm, with three fingers curled closed, with my extended right middle finger flying in the breeze.

You're welcome.

I didn't even know what a Mormon was in 1965. You're going to get a better spot in outer darkness than I old dog!
