...the ruby World Cup taking place in France? Shame it isn't being shown here to a wider audience with most games on Peacock. Would love to see England win it again but its doubtful with Ireland and France being favorites.

Rugby WC

Well heck, France really beat up on Italy today, 60-7. Enjoy!

I've been stubborn about subscribing to Peacock, because I get a decent number of Premier League games through my cable provider via USA Network and NBC. We'll see how it goes.

Sounds good, kentish. I don't get any of the sports that aren't shown on regular TV channels. Seems like I'm missing a lot. I'll have to look into it.

Meanwhile, perhaps in your spare time you'd like to take a look at Canada trying to qualify in the cricket (for the first time ever!):

Cricket. As much a state of mind as a game.

The state of mind you have after watching paint dry.

All that standing around. Kind of like American football but with more nuance.

...which I also played, even after leaving school. Think of it as more of a Zen pursuit than a sport, then it makes sense (vaguely ;-).

The world would be a better place if everyone lived like rugby players.

"In cricket, a century is when a batsman scores 100 or more runs in a single inning without being dismissed.  A century is a major milestone for a batsman..."

Highest score in world class cricket is 400 runs not out.

EOD achieves that every time he golfs on the adult course.

Consider the gauntlet thrown, Sir.

I will see you at the mini-golf course, where you will be limited to two mulligans per windmill.

Wait...  An adult mini-golf course or the kiddie course?

The kiddie one, of course. You aren't tall enough to use the adult one.

I'm watching nearly all of it. I used to play rugby at school, although the rules and the game have changed for the better since my time, making the game more fluid and less brutal. I'm afraid I don't think England will win...

I can hope but am doubtful. My second hope is Ireland.

I'll get to see a couple of games today, but not Scotland vs Ireland. (Boo!) because I've got to go to a ceilidh ironically.

BTW this is the first time in however long that there are no NAm teams in there. Canada and the USA are usually in there, but Chile and Uruguay took their places. Portugal usually only just scrape in but have been playing surprisingly good rugby.

>the game have changed for the better since my time, making the game more fluid and less brutal. I'm afraid I don't think England will win...

I'm not sure about that. I'm sure the game has become rougher since professionalisation. The other thing I notice is that the players look less normal now and more like beef cattle. One of my friends is an former international from the amateur era and he says they spend most of their time in the gym now rather than on learning skills.

p.s. As a Celt, I must say ABE. ;) Preferably ABNZ as well. I hope the All Blacks don't win yet again.

They're both teams that play attractive, exciting rugby, which is sadly not the case of the current England setup.

Tom, great game today between France and South Africa. Too bad obne team had to lose but no shame in a one point loss. In tournaments like this it is nt always the best team that wins out espeically iun the knockout stages. Hoping for England but we agreee they are not at their best right now. New Zealand versus South Africa in the final will likely be a classic.

I took a glance at the England vs. Fiji game today, given that NBC consented to show it after the Ravens vs. Titans game at Tottenham Hotspur stadium in north London. Those are not two teams that I would expect to see playing one another. I guess that sends England to the semis?

Summer, rugby first began at Rugby Scool in 1823 and has been played in Fiji since 1884, likely because of New Zealand influence. Their current couch is from New Zealand. As surprising as Fiji in the quarter final is Argentina in the semi final. Luck of the draw, I think, which has favored England in this tournament.

France has been in 3 WC finals and lost all. Perhaps this will be their year. England in 4 and won one.
