Society is changing. People are rejecting hate. This divide is like slavery. Enslavers and racists invoked divine authority as justification to justify their own fears and prejudices.

Don't expect to see an inclusive version of Mormonism before the end of this century. The ossified Brethren running LD$, Inc. are like the Politburo of the old Soviet Union. They all have dirt on each other, and none of them will dare step out of line.

The churches are breaking from the UMC after a 2019 decision by the national United Methodist Church to allow congregations to leave by the end of 2023, “for reasons of conscience regarding a change in the requirements and provisions of the Book of Discipline related to the practice of homosexuality or the ordination or marriage of self-avowed practicing homosexuals.”

Factions have fought for decades about sexuality and Scripture at the General Conference, the church’s top legislative body. After the church strengthened its bans on partnered LGBTQ clergy and same-sex marriage in 2019, many Methodists argued a split was likely inevitable in the second-largest Protestant denomination in the US.

In recent decades, several of the traditional mainline Protestant denominations have split up over homosexuality or related issues, including the American Baptist Churches USA, the Episcopal Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Presbyterian Church USA.

In what was a solemn day, members of the 2023 North Georgia Annual Conference ratified the disaffiliation agreements of 261 churches at a Special Called Session.

Rev. Carolyn Stephens, vice chair of the Conference Board of Trustees, presented the motion to the Conference on behalf of the Board of Trustees, and the names of the churches requesting disaffiliation were read by their district superintendent. Each district lay leader offered a prayer.

The requests of four churches were not ratified following discussion by the members of the Annual Conference. Those churches are The Fountain UMC at Sugarloaf in Duluth, McEachern Memorial UMC in Powder Springs, Trinity UMC in Rome, and Griffin First UMC.

The date of disaffiliation for the departing churches is November 30, 2023. They have an additional 30 days to fulfill the terms of the agreement which include financial and other obligations.

2SLGBTQIA+ rights are human rights. Some "churches" are against human rights.

Church schisms don't bother me. I don't know about the Baptist group that you mentioned, but the other churches are all on the moderate to liberal end of the Christian spectrum. They are trying to modernize and some members just aren't having it.
