I am always glad when I recieve books as Christmas gifts and I got two this year. The first is a novel by Michael Ondaatje entitle Warlight. Ondaatje is the author of The English Patient.

The other covers a topic that ghas been talked about here a lot; the rising politicizing of the Christian right in America. The book is The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory by Tim Alberta. Itg is subtitle is American Evangelism in an age of Extremism. Alberta has a highly readable style of writing that makes it interesting reading this Boxing Day, especially as he encapsulates much of my own thinking on the subject.

Anyone erlse receive books they would recommend.

After you read them, let us know what you think about them! They both sound interesting. The reviews of these books on Amazon look good.

Agree with dagny. Please keep us informed, particularly, in my case, about the second book.

You just want us to ask about that woman you claim you and JFK both slept with.

Marilyn Monroe was a lot of things, but she wasn't dippy!

...I mean, not that you'd really notice all that much...

I finally got around to reading Ann Cleeves's The Rising Tide which is a "Vera" mystery if you like that TV series. It has a well-constructed and very atmospheric plot. I'm close to the end and still haven't figured out "whodunit" (my first two suspects didn't pan out.) Very enjoyable!

"Harold" by Steven Wright. Seems to be based on one single day when EOD was seven. I don't read main stream stuff and this certainly isn't.

I've seen EOD's birth certificate. It's written on a clay tablet in cuneiform.

My guess was Uruk IV although there were some indications that it may have dated to the Tell Brak period, which would make EOD barely literate.
