Mormonism and the soft prosperity gospel
The LDS Church doesn't teach that God wants you to be rich. But it does promote a 'Plan of Happiness' that emphasizes your very own personal flourishing.

“Nelson was not promising his listeners professional success just for paying tithing.
This is not to imply a cause-and-effect relationship. Some who never pay tithing attain professional opportunities, while some who pay tithing do not. The promise is that the windows of heaven will be opened to the tithe payer. The nature of the blessings will vary.
In other words, “we’re not saying you will be promoted or get a raise because you give the Church 10% of your income. We’re not exactly not saying that, because God has promised to open the windows of heaven for you, but … your mileage may vary.”
Here, in a nutshell, is the Church’s ongoing struggle with the prosperity gospel. I’ve rarely heard in LDS circles any talks or lessons I would characterize as the “hard” prosperity gospel, but the “soft” variety is all over.”

It’s ironic that the foundational narrative of the Mormon CULT preaches against materialism, yet MORmONs are generally extremely materialistic and affluent.

By giving us ten percent of your gross income and all the free labor to facilitate running the LDS organization, we'll also allow you on the exclusive "Team Toilet" cleaning escapades!

Meanwhile as our hidden shell companies hide billions and billions of vast dollars along with many unknown real estate ventures, guess who is dumb and stupid again?

I'll give you clue, it ain't us!

-The nature of the blessings will vary.

That is a bold lie!

As missionaries we had explicit (we had to say these exact words) printed dialogue in the official church discussions. It read- Those who faithfully pay what is owed to the lord, known as tithing WILL be blessed both temporally and spiritually.

I can remember this from 30 years ago because temporally is Mormonese to non-members and we elders had to clarify what the church meant.

For Nelson to explain that it doesn't guarantee any reward or blessing is a slippery slope. Blessings and prayers can equally be explained away when they fail to yield any measurable results.

...President Nelson's comments on the matter are a kick in the balls to Mormon missionaries.

Remember when you were told if you pay your tithing you'd become richer?
