Aaron Sherinian is the new Church PR head and boy is this guy a doozy. He ticks all the boxes — alumnus of the tobacco industry, and linked with three of the world's most prominent paranationalist groups, the Vatican, United Nations and the World Economic Forum. All three of these groups have been attacked in recent years for their corruption and undue influence upon domestic issues. He'll be ideal for sugaring whatever bitter pill the FP wants Mormons to swallow next.

https://www.deseret.com/2024/1/9/24032002/latter-day-saint-leaders-hire-new-managing-director-for-church-communication

From the article:

“In the meeting, my focus was on how the Savior’s way of communication was all about finding ways to reach everyone,” he told the Deseret News. “Communications for the Church of Jesus Christ should always be generous, inclusive and personal.”

Note the buzzwords/dogwhistles. But how long's he going to be around for? The last two didn't last long:

"Sherinian replaces Eric Hawkins due to health complications. The church has had five managing directors of public affairs/church communication over the past 34 years, from Bruce Olsen (1989-2008) to Michael Otterson (2008-16), Richard Turley Jr. (2016-20), Michael Colemere (2020-22) and Hawkins (2022-23)."

I can't believe that the DN puff piece didn't mention his stint at Phillip Morris, the tobacco giant.

Here's his page on the WEF (Davos) site:
https://www.weforum.org/people/aaron-h-sherinian/

Do not be suckered by any of this. These are PR people. Their job is to make the unpalatable palatable by making it sound as if it is all sweetness and light. A communications specialist like him will help convince members that "All is well in Zion".

Let me mention a few highlights:

-Chief Communications and Marketing Officer for the United Nations Foundation. This was established by billionaire Ted Turner in the 1990s and is used to funnel money into select causes abroad.
-Managing Director of Public Affairs for the Millennium Challenge Corporation. This is another international body used to direct money from the USA to various select groups in other countries.
-U.S. Embassy Officer to the Holy See (the Vatican). Maybe like Rusty, he can refer to the Pope as "His Holiness". I don't need to explain how many problems the Catholic Church has had in recent times. He'll be aware of most of them.

Here's his Linkedin page —
https://www.linkedin.com/in/asherinian/
Here's a interesting highlight: Vice President, Global Communications for Philip Morris International. Yes, it's that Philip Morris, the tobacco company that is "delivering a smoke-free future" but yellowing tens of billions of teeth, ruining billions of lungs, and killing tens of millions of people today. This guy should be awesome at the doubletalk that is required to do PR for the Church. He would have handled certain recent issues with ease!

Just when I thought the Church leadership couldn't sink any lower, they go and do the impossible. It's miraculous! He's the perfect Good Global Citizen for our Global Faith. He'll represent our dear and beloved Global Faith Leader well. And you are forced to fund all of this if you want to enter the temple. And that is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. You really have no choice but to support it if you are a true believer who wants to be together with your family in the Mormon heaven.

"It's light up time... with Jesus"

And his next one will use LSMFT.

Even my mom who grew up as a non-smoker before joining the church recognizes those abbreviations from the smoking ads of the 1950s.

Welp, they are acting like a billionaire. Billionaires do what billionaires gotta do to get what they want.

Back in Jesus' time, I wonder if the word apostles actually meant directors of public relations.

Whew I’d guess his cancer stick job paid well and subsequent tithing was plentiful….just greasing the wheels of commerce….that is after all what capitalism is about….once your making millions and have the lifestyle very few little folks question how that lifestyle derived…..just bow down and kiss the ring little tithe payers….just might arise some spin off benefits to being in bed with big tobacco and the Davos mob….networking is a powerful tool

This is all I need to know about him. "Transformation Communications for Phillip Morris International, focusing on the smoke-free initiatives of that company (From a website about him)
So here he is a Mormon and working for a company that produces products that kills people and/or makes them ill. And trying to create some sort of communication between that company and the people they sell their products to show what a good company the Tobacco Company is. That had to be a real challenge if you are a person of ethics and good moral judgement. His job is to make a bad company look good.
He will fit right in with the Church as it tries to hide its money. He seems well qualified.
And I keep being told that Jesus is the head of this Church. Its his Church. He is directing it.

This is just more proof that what they say is true--"The Lord works in mysterious ways." Indeed!

How convenient is the word "mysterious"? Hard to run a cult without it.

I feel the same way, SP. My parents were both Greatest Generaton, and as with most people back then, they both smoked like chimneys. My dad smoked unfiltered Camel cigarettes. My mom told me once that by the time the health issues were better known, it was too late for them. They were both addicted. My mom was able to give it up at about age 70, when she was hospitalized for something else. I do think giving it up even at that late stage did extend her life to a degree.

My dad, however, was not so lucky. Smoking-related emphysema took him from us when I was 14 years old. His death had devastating consequences for our family.

And the tobacco companies laugh all the way to the bank, of course. If the companies had to compensate families for the loss of the families' breadwinners, it might be a different story.

With his background he should excel at dressing up a pig and choosing the correct shade of lipstick!

Or as they also say, "What do you expect from a pig but a grunt?"

So the PR director for a church, most of whose members are outside the U.S., has international PR experience.

OP seems troubled by that, and troubled that he worked for charities that make decisions about where to spend their money. Both seem like basic qualifications to me.

As for working for a tobacco company, the church used to deny TRs to Nevada casino workers, but if you had investments in casinos or liquor companies, or had porn on the cable system in your hotel, no problem getting a TR. The church finally decided this was problematic, and casino workers now qualify for TR. Seems to me the same thing would apply here. Yeah, not up to LDS standards, but neither is working at a place that allows sleeveless blouses.

Most of these groups are not what they claim to be. They are not humanitarian. They are more interested in reshaping society in their image than helping it.

If you go to the World Economic Forum website, it openly talks about public hostility to some of its ideas and how it aims to combat that.

. . . Sometimes you go too, too far!

I'm quite surprised that the RfM censors let that one slip through!

"Communications for the Church of Jesus Christ"...

Why is he naming them when working for MFMC?

The Church of Jesus Christ is NOT the LDS branch - it is the legal name of another group.

Typical PR person for them, starts out lying.

They keep trying to use this name but it is so generic, like everything else they do.

Maybe Russ visited Epstein’s island and Klaus Schwab has the video. Maybe the church has become a puppet organization for the New World Order. You will Own Nothing and Love It will be the new church motto.

J wonder if Aaron Sherinian attended this week's meeting?

The church has more members (excluding inactives) than some countries have people... so it is a big deal to these interest groups.

I don't find any of this surprising even though I've been lambasted for years for saying such ipportunists and entryists are high up in the church. Well, now you've got what you always secretly wanted. You'll find it isn't as pretty as you thought it was. Sherinian is not what he claims to be. Progressive my hat, his background in the tobacco industry should be proof positive that he is no such thing. If people want to smoke cancer sticks then that is their choice, but anyone who promotes such unhealthy lifestyle choices is in a Faustian pact at best.

If past PRmen are anything to go by, this waste of oxygen will be out within three or four years and replaced by another such creature.

Aaron Sherinian has indeed held significant roles in global organizations, including the United Nations. I don't have information specifying that he holds a position within the World Economic Forum. It's always a good idea to look at the most current and reliable resources to get accurate information. Anyway, his work in communication and public diplomacy aligns with many Christian principles like service, goodwill, and fostering positive relationships.

This is indeed a progressive advancement for the church.

Do you mean this in the sense that the church is getting better and lying and that this is a good thing?

Thus, those jeans look great on you, Gladys!
