LDS Worship moves to a single hour for Easter Sunday and the one nearest Xmas.

On all upcoming Easter Sundays and Sundays near Christmas, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will attend a single Church service.

I suppose this will allow more time for online shopping.

IMO it's another move to mainstream the church, although many/most active Christians will also go to church either Christmas eve or Christmas day.

In The Tuscaloosa third ward on holidays we prove our loyalty with a 16hr service. We post hall & foyer monitors to ensure compliance. We also employ the church SWAT team to visit homes of members and "encourage" them to attend.
Our leaders in Tuscaloosa know how to run a church.

It would be better news if it were one hour every week. Better yet for many members, likely, would be even less than that. Certainly without pressure to always be present.

And no more extra meetings and unpaid work for members unless they truly volunteered for it.

People have places to go and people to see and time is always short for family and pleasure without church consuming/demanding more than a person is willing or able to give ungrudgingly.

But it takes a lot of time to get ready to go to church and for the ladies to put on the nylons (something I absolutely don't miss at all), so they have to be there a little bit at least. And since mormons are notoriously late, so they really only have 1-1/2 or 1 hour as it is.

It was the year 2012 or so and I was an active TBM sitting in Relief Society. The older sister next to me said to me "you are not wearing nylons ?!". I said that we are living in Texas and in Germany during the winter months I would wear nylons to church but here in Texas even in the winter months it is not that cold. The sister said to me that it was disrespectful of my to wear a skirt workout wearing any nylons. I was wearing my garments and my skirt went to my mid calf. So I went to the Relief Society president and asks if I was supposed to wear nylons. I had not worn nylons in years. I was also breastfeeding in Relief Society. The Relief Society president said that most sisters wear nylons but that she had noticed that some younger sisters don't wear them anymore.

It's crazy now to see how focused people can be on policing each other over trivial things like that.

Rude isn't it. What if a person can't afford nylons? Or is allergic? Or just has different fashion choices? Oh wait - that's not allowed in Mormonism either is it. Not if it means wearing a normal-length skirt or something else somebody's over-zealousness judges and disapproves of.

Even two hours hardly makes it worth sponging the gravy stain off the only red tie you have….every fifteen years the suit could even be dry cleaned….and old high priests that milk a cow really should learn to run their hands under a tap before being the stake house greeter…ewwww

These abbreviated services are probably so that they can invite guests.

One hour? Still one hour too much.
