The attitude in the LDS church is protect the organization at all costs. The organization is more important than individuals. In fact if you go through the temple you covet under oath you will give everything including your own life to the organization. This really is no different than how mobsters are sworn into La Costra Nostra.

So if you tell the truth but the truth hurts the organization you committed the sin of disloyalty. Mark Hoffman knew all he had to do was forge documents that made the church look bad and the church would buy them. He perfectly understood what the church was. You can actually get excommunicated telling the truth.

Many decades ago, when local wards built their own churches, I discovered s few double billing items.

I took the hard proof to the stake president, laid it all out.

His answer?

Brother X has built many of these and would never do such s thing.

Don't tell anyone, if you do, no recommend for you.

"In fact if you go through the temple you covet under oath you will give everything including your own life to the organization."

I covenant under oath to give the church the middle finger.

“If we have the truth, it cannot be harmed by investigation. If we have not the truth, it ought to be harmed.”
– President J. Reuben Clark

“In this Church there is an enormous amount of room—and scriptural commandment—for studying and learning, for comparing and considering, for discussion and awaiting further revelation. We all learn ‘line upon line, precept upon precept,’ with the goal being authentic religious faith informing genuine Christlike living. In this there is no place for coercion or manipulation, no place for intimidation or hypocrisy.”

– Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Acting on the Truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” Worldwide Leadership Training, 2/11/12

Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words.
