Every year about this time I recall my childhood when my dear atheist mother tried to explain why it was called "Good" Friday

I was very young and I just could not understand why nailing a man ( god as a man, man as a god, or whatever ) to a cross and leaving him to die would ever be called "good". I recall that I kept my mother on the hook for an answer that I, a child, could understand for quite a while.

One Good Friday many years latter, my mother confessed to me that she dreaded Good Friday for years after because she was afraid I would ask her to explain it again!

My guess is that it is good for those saved by Jesus' sacrifice. Now I don't happen to believe in the atonement but if I did, it would be a good day for me.Not so good for Jesus
