Well, we had this discussion a few days ago on the historical Jesus. Josephus was not considered a reliable source...nor were the gospels for obvious reasons.
Some of Paul's letters are considered forgeries. However, Galatians is considered by most scholars to be legit.
It just seems to me that if Paul wrote Galatians this is about as close as we can get to the historical Jesus. Paul mentions in passing in Galatians that he met with James, the Lord's brother. If Galatians was written in the 50s CE then that is as close as we can get IMO. James was killed in about 62 CE or so I think and Paul a few years later.
