I'm a big fan of The Simpsons and this is one of my favorite quotes. The first time I heard it, I thought of the church. It's the episode where Homer mistakes a glowing Mr. Burns for an alien. It starts out with Leonard Nimoy about to tell us all a story from a desk in his library:

"Good evening. The following tale of alien encounters is true. And by true, I mean false. It's all lies. But they're entertaining lies, and, in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is no."

At least the old goofy one. (There was a lot to be learnt there. I was disturbed that in the second series Worf's head kept growing larger with each new season.)
