I had somehow missed this one but, as a regular (but not frequent!) user of things hallucinogenic myself, this theory strikes me as very convincing.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Loaded Datura Saints, perhaps?

The table comparing the effects of early Mormonism and of Datura shows a particularly close match in terms of symptoms.

Now I get it. Women put on the veil so that they can been poorly seen and never heard. Men wear the mushroom to signify that they accept being kept in the dark and being fed horse sh--.
