What other areas does Utah rank high in? I have heard depression, prescription drugs, bankruptcies, etc. If anyone has a list with references I think it would be a great objective reality check for members. I would particularly like to share something like this with my family. Clearly these types of findings suggest that members struggle with the culture in Utah. It's not just me!!!

They also have alarmingly high rates of "accidental poisonings" in the 40 and over crowd. Oh, and they lead the nation in broadband porn use.

"Study itself does not find religion or family size to be the cause of stress."

BULLSHIT

The religion is the foundation of all the stress - getting married and having big families too young that you can't afford financially or emotionally, making bad financial decisions and taking on too much debt in order to appear blessed, constantly being told you are not measuring up to the standard of perfection and endless to do list the church has set for you...

They couldn't find religion as a factor for the stressed out people of Utah? Puhleeese.

Gasp! How can these "bad things" be happening in Zion??? Marie Osmond said in a recent interview that mormons have more fun than anybody!

Some of us are trying to compile lists of things exactly like this to show the dissonance between what Mormons practice and what they preach.

The list starts here - "All is not well in Zion": http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,136836,197186#msg-197186
and continues here - "All is not well in Zion, continued": http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,197256,203162#msg-203162

"Utah and Kentucky have been among the top two most stressed states for the past three years." --from the Gallup.com article.

How much you want to bet that the spin doctor, Dr. Thomas Conover, that ABC4.com interviewed centrally for this spin piece is LDS? I mean he says no causes of stress were identified in the Gallup study--not religion, economics, etc. Well then what the /$@&? is the cause for such high stress in Utah? Couldn't be the dominant cult religion there that has been implicated in Utah's high rates of suicide, depression, anti-depressant use, or bankruptcy, could it? How dumb do such "experts" think people are, even the ones in Utah, also known for being an educationally bottom-dwelling state, where this spin-piece was meant to be consumed? Sheeple.

...the gap between reality and what the church promises will lead to happiness?

"I'm doing everything the church demands, yet the blessings aren't coming. What's wrong with me? I'll just need to redouble my efforts so I'll be worthy."

A sure recipe for stress. It certainly made ME crazy.

My EXmo sister-in-law (also in California) actually gets physically sick when she goes to see her explyg mother.

Would you rather have a tour of Utah or a sewage treatment plant in a glass-bottomed boat?
