In 2015, the iconic evangelist was horrified to learn that one of his grandsons, Tullian Tchividjian, had been caught in a cheating triangle. While Tchividjian admitted to cheating on his wife, he brought her down with him — claiming Kim cheated on him first!

“As many of you know, I returned from my trip a few months back and discovered that my wife was having an affair,” Tchividjian, 45, said in a written statement. “As her affair continued, we separated. Sadly and embarrassingly, I subsequently sought comfort in a friend, and developed an inappropriate relationship myself.”

Following the statement, a heartbroken Graham attempted to salvage their marriage by pleading with Tchividjian to work it out with Kim....

At the time, Graham’s son Franklin had taken over the mantle of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, but Tchividjian “was seen as a rising star by Billy,” the source said.

Graham gave him a second chance by offering him a staff position at a church in the town of Winter Springs, Florida. But he quickly lost that position and his career was tarnished for good after Tchividjian tragically admitted to a second extramarital affair as pastor at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale in Florida.

The day prior to his grandfather’s death, he tweeted, “More than anything else, baptizing babies is what I miss most about being a pastor.”

Before reading this today, the only other sex scandal I'd heard associated with Billy Graham was during the late 1960's. It was reported he'd gone to some type of love-in with a group of counter-culture hippies.

It is nowhere to be found in any subsequent memoirs or news releases.

At the time Billy defended it as ministering to those where Christ himself would have gone.

He didn't take Ruth with him - it was wild speculation at the time he was engaging in orgies.

So basically one of the "kids" didn't work out in the family business. It happens.

Apparently he wasn't cut out of the same cloth as his granddaddy was.

Frank Church was a popular and well-loved Democrat senator from Idaho for many years. His son, Frank Forrester Church became a popular and well loved Unitarian minister in NYC for several decades. In his early career he had an extra-marital affair with one of his church members that caused his wife at the time to divorce him. He ultimately married the woman he'd had the affair with. He was able to hold onto his position though it sent shockwaves through his congregation at the time.

Forrester Church died in 2009 from esophoegal cancer after a three year battle. He spent the last years of his life coming to terms with his own mortality. In his New York Times obituary he was quoted as saying, “Every minister spends a lifetime preparing to ace the death test,” he said on the PBS program “Religion and Ethics” in February. “It’s what we do. We can’t fail that test, having gone through it with so many others.”

And, “I look back without regrets, and I look forward without fear,” he told The New York Times in 2008. “I have never been more in the present.”

No doubt two more tragic victims of porn addiction. On the bright side, I will hopefully never have to spell the grandson's name.

I noted some parallels to "Mormon shunning" that occurs when a Mormon falls off the pedestal.

In Mormonism it's my firm conviction that those who break the laws of chastity by committing adultery or fornication is besides the fact they are only human ... is that they are set up to fail with the unrealistic perfectionist standards they must adhere to or else face severe retribution by those having authority over them.

Then they're made examples of how to be a Mormon flunkie because they just weren't chaste enough. You can't be good enough in Mormonism. At some point they will break. The law of chastity is one of the most tempting sins staring them in the face as they struggle with conflicting messages the church sends. "You can't be good enough." "You must not sin, but if/when you do will face the wrath of Mormon god."

Often, the woman gets the full measure of blame. With a little blubbering prostration, combined with a plan of counseling with the 'bishop', the male party is reborn as a fully-entitled priesthood holder.

I expect this will happen with Rob Porter, current Mormon Golden Boy in hot (tepid?) water. He'll get 'laundered' and reborn. He will definitely land on his feet.
