The woman hasn't even been dead 24 hours.

publicly reminiscing about her white hair that earned her the nickname of "Silver Fox," as well as her title of "The Enforcer," as well as remembering how she had a wicked sense of humor and wouldn't take guff from anybody.

Roll with it.

I don't get it. Maybe someone will explain it to me.

She never colored her hair once it started going grey because she thought it looked unnatural.

In real life she let her hair go naturally white and she always spoke her mind. IOW, don't F with her.

Steve is poking fun at the notion that believers receive new bodies when they pass away, or are otherwise rejuvenated, and in a further play on words called it meeting her MakeOVEr rather than meeting her MAKER!” It’s clever, in both respects; I usually don’t care for his cartoons.

On the other hand, I was referring to Steve’s hair above, because I’d never seen it before. ;)

"[Steve is] Not always politically correct."

Misleading statement.

I'd leave out the "always".

Not funny or very clever.

Her family, friends and associates are already paying tribute to her by joking about her hair and her fiercely independent streak of strongly-expressed opinion (recalling, for instance, that even her husband George tried to tap it down in public but repeatedly failed).

Geezus. May I suggest you consider getting yourself a humor gene transplant.

I like it because you could put my mother's face (still living) on that cartoon and it would apply. Some have thought of her as an empowered woman. I've thought of her as mean and full of spite. She judges all women who die their hair as being bad. Maybe it is because she was raised to think that? If so she needs to get over it in her 80s.

All you killjoys...jeesh...lighten up!
I think Steve hit it perfectly - pearls and all! I think Barbara Bush would get a chuckle out of it!

. . . she would push back even more (George would roll his eyes, but didn't stop her). What is it with some here who can't seem to muster up appreciation and admiration for a woman who spoke her mind, for gawd's sake?

I wasn't always her biggest fan if a fan at all, but I always liked her because she wasn't afraid to do what most people can't---Say exactly what is on your mind and let the chips fall where they may."

Having no filter takes some talent? She was that rare thing---herself.

It reminds me of how the women in high levels of Mormon leadership are "trained" how to dress, accessorize, do make-up, and style their hair. Someone at church showed me a pamphlet for how all us TBM ladies could get this training. That's when the mental image of "Steppford" first occurred to me with regard to Mormonism. The only grooming direction I was ever given as a female growing up was "comb your hair-take a daily bath-use deodorant-mend any frayed or damaged clothing-iron wrinkled clothes-polish your shoes as needed-and act like a lady". Anything beyond that was considered dictatorial.

Steve, your cartoons to me, in my opinion, what I think (am I getting the point across) are the best.....very thought-provoking, right-on, ingenious and did I say I like them?

This particular cartoon is extra-wonderfully special because I say it is, and also because I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that powerful Barbara would have loved it. And she would have laughed and laughed and laughed.

And, it is extra-wonderfully special because Orange Orangutan Tweeting Trump would not laugh and would only give you a nasty nick-name like Snarky Untalented Steve.

And, as a proud ExMormon it is extra-special to me, because I have chosen purposely to have white, white medium length undyed hair to stand against the TBM rule that older-wrinkled-bitchy-women like me should not do either.

A BIG thanks for sharing!

I think Barbara may have liked the 'toon (at least I hope so), and would have perhaps said so with one of her famous no-holds-barred barbs.

Why is her hair restored to a vibrant color in the cartoon but her face isn't youthful? Doesn't make a bit of sense.

Maybe because if she was "youthful" she wouldn't have had white hair, hence no need for a dye job?

Sometimes I see cartoons I don't get, some I don't like. I just move on.

If you have to explain all is lost but here goes.

(Up here in Canada even - it translates).

Barbara Bush - straight-shooter - known for speaking her mind - telling off even God - choosing to sport her abundant white hair in life - saying don't mess with me, even in heaven. Put me back the way I was. Or at least ask me first.

Clever. Funny. Capturing her spirit and trademark, the things people loved about her, in one drawing and a few words.

If not your taste, doesn't mean it's a bad job from a cartoonist. You don't have to like it. Some do. Some don't. C'est la vie.

. . . I explain it to them.

If they disagree with the cartoon, I respond with what I regard as a reason- and evidence-based defense of it.

If they don’t like either type of approach, well, not much I can do about that.

Drawing her too young for what people are used to seeing would have evoked questions of "Who is that?"

It's called the necessity of artistic license.
