Salem pond prophecy

I lived in Salem for 6 months and it was common knowledge that Brigham Young had made a prophecy that no one would die in that pond unless they swam on Sunday. Anyone else ever hear of that?

I hadn't heard that one, but there are many false revelations out there by Briggy and the boys that we haven't heard yet.

Are Mormons totally obsessed w/ water and swimming or what? Either it the "Devil" rides the Missouri river (per Horney Joe's vivid vision of the destroyer), or the devil has control of the waters, or you'll die if you swim in that pond on Sunday...gee whiz. Seems to be an underlying theme of water phobia.

Fear of water is my rational adjustment to negative buoyancy—-and not being one of those beautiful swimming pool women. (More so the latter.)

Mine started in pre-adolescence. It's an irrational fear, but one I don't question much.

My mom was phobic of heights.

And my dad little mice.

It must run in our family. :)

Probably very few people back then knew how to swim; I love the water, but then my sign is "Pisces". Pisces beats "Stan". ;)

I lived in Payson and I heard it. Thought it was ridiculous.
