In a recent thread, Dave the Atheist made reference to the “Real Men Love Jesus” bumper sticker that I have seen too many times over the years. It seems to me that bumper stickers are going the way of the Mormon church in that they are both slowly going away, but over the years, there have been some memorable bumper stickers—a few of them were good, most…not so much.

Perhaps my favorite bumper sticker appeared during the Watergate era, it was “Impeach the Coxshucker” (google “Saturday Night Massacre” if you don’t get the reference).

Generally speaking, my least favorite bumper stickers are religious in nature. There’s nothing like being told that you’re going to hell by a strip of vinyl on the back of somebody’s minivan.

In the late 80s through mid-90s, I lived not far from Colorado Springs, the “Vatican City of the Religious Right.” There were some interesting bumper sticker battles between the Christian conservatives and those who were atheist, agnostic, gay, gay friendly, or just not rabidly Christian. A popular bumper sticker at the time was “Celebrate Diversity,” which was met with “I Will NOT Celebrate Perversity.” My favorite sticker from that era was directed towards James Dobson’s Focus on the Family. It read “Focus on Your Own Damn Family.”

How about?

Support a Mormon. Buy a toilet brush.

was something like, "Dear God, save me from your followers." Maybe someone else remembers exactly what it said.

Non sequitur.

The opposite of God is not Karl Marx.

However, he did claim to have the grand, unifying theory to explain Mankind, the solution to Mankind's problems, and was thus an authority (of sorts). His followers have done a lot of evil in his name.History's two greatest mass murderers claimed to be Marxist (Mao Zedong & Stalin). Add Ho Chi Minh and Pol Pot, and Marxists account for 4 of the top ten.

I just finished a review of two biographies of Marx. Both point out that 1) few people have read the 750+ pages of "Kapital," let alone studied it, and 2) his defenders usually claim that Socialism has never been correctly implemented. Title of the review is a hoot: "Better Dead Than Read."

Caffiend, my friend, you are stuck in the 1950s. There are very few Marxists left and they have almost no political power.

You may as well argue against Manicheans.

Was the problem one of Marxism or was it one of totalitarianism ?

"After the rapture, can I have your car?"

Loved it!

I kept getting cut off, nearly side-swiped, or followed way too closely on the freeway by people with big "Not of This World" stickers on their cars.

I finally started rolling down my window and shouting, "You might not be of this world, but your damn car is!"

:)

I see "Jesus Saves" all the time. I think it would be more effective in the window of a bank.

I actually saw it once on a bumper, and laughed my ass off. You not only need to have a sick and twisted sense of humor, but also know hockey to get it. 242

I wouldn't have gotten it but I used to be good friends with a Canadian hockey player who played for the Golden Eagles at the Salt Palace all those years ago. Nice memories.

I was at a game once when they had to stop it because some audience members were throwing folding chairs over the glass partition. The police actually came. What a night.

Many years ago, I was driving behind a car that had a bumper sticker saying "Jesus Loves You". I happened to notice that the car in the lane to the right (driving next to the car in front of me) also had a bumper sticker, so I checked it out and almost ran my car off the road, I was laughing so hard. The sticker on the right-hand car said "Ask Me If I Care".

I have only had a bumper sticker on my car once, and I tore it off. All it said was "Waldorf - The Best Kept Secret in Education". While I had it there, I kept getting tailgated, I guess because drivers just had to read it. I got tired of people driving practically on top of my rear bumper, and got rid of the sticker. (Just FYI, Waldorf is a private school curriculum I used to teach in.)

My favorite bumper sticker of all time? "If you have to ride my ass, at least take me out to dinner first".

Not a bumper sticker, but I had a button once that said, "What would Jesus Do? Probably kick your ass then knock back a few brewskis in front of the tube."

"My body isn't a Temple, it's an amusement park." (or something to that effect). I remember seeing that while driving home from church many years ago. At the time I remember one half of me feeling sorry for the person driving and the other half of me thinking, "gee, it must be nice..."

Stickers are up everywhere
And More Clever Than Ever
Not as common on bumpers
But thriving everywhere else

There are a lot I like (some mentioned here, including OP).

A guy I knew went places and had no more room, anywhere on the car (except the windshield), for another sticker.

I saw a home-school bus years ago in Eugene, Oregon that had elementary scribbled spray painted letters on the back that said something to the effect of "we don't have any drugs inside so don't bother stopping-asking" (Not sure if it was directed towards the cops or the robbers or if they were considering there being a difference).

A friend, who believes in reinCARnation, has one on her rig that says "Born Again and Again and Again". That would get some stares - and worse, in some cases - in some places.

I have created a few over - and under - the years, and do creative writing projects such as this (humor) and like poking fun where it needs to be poked, (OUT), and simply can't think of any right now that aren't in the pot getting hot, even if on the back burner, or not over nine days old, except maybe "I Can't Measure Heaven - My Ruler Won't Let Me".

A friend once got a once friend a mug that said 'Jesus Saves', and showing a bearded Jesus. Adding a hot beverage would show Jesus freshaven and saying 'Jesus Shaves'. Good for any christian-person.

I might put a sticker on something, keep/ collect it, give one as a gift-trade. I mostly like older ephemeral things like post cards, posters, booklets, advertising, stickers, humor, etc... I'd buy many stickers just sticking around.

"This Is A Good Place For A Stick-up" (80's air-worsener ad campaign)

Hahaha ha. I love you have that sticker, Heidi!

I do believe that is how the Mormon church saw things during the ERA movement. And probably still.

Remember the BKP quote about "three biggest threats to the Mormon church being feminists, homosexuals, and intellectuals?"

There's one that took me a long time to figure out because I only saw it devoid of context. I thought it was a brand logo or something. Here it is:

H>i

Then I saw it in context with some religious stickers and eventually figured out it means "He is greater than I." Um, okay
