I recently saw this article as a slideshow on MSN. I was fascinated by Brother Holdings sweater as well as land holdings and after googling him realized he probably didn't need his temple work done for him as he probably did it whilst he was a live.

But this got me thinking what LDS Corp has in land in The United States? From this almost 30 year old article I bet they have at least 500,000 acres?

LDS Corp owns a lot, and I mean a LOT of Florida. They are probably a larger land holder than any of the individuals mentioned in this thread.

And they plan to develop a bunch of their Florida holdings. But at what cost?

" “This is not a typical housing development. It is an entire region of the state of Florida – and it is the last remaining wilderness,” said Karina Veaudry, a landscape architect in Orlando and member of the Florida Native Plant Society. It is, she stressed, a plan on an unprecedented scale: “This project impacts the entire state, ecologically.” "

And apparently The Mormons care about the environment because making the earth "ugly" offends God but I guess it is more along the lines of using the word "Mormon" offends God.

"Approaches to the environment must be prudent, realistic, balanced and consistent with the needs of the earth and of current and future generations, rather than pursuing the immediate vindication of personal desires or avowed rights. The earth and all life upon it are much more than items to be consumed or conserved. God intends His creations to be aesthetically pleasing to enliven the mind and spirit, and some portions are to be preserved. Making the earth ugly offends Him."
