I found this while browsing through my Facebook feed:
https://www.facebook.com/events/271706110163634/

So if TSCC wants people to forget about their racist past - pretend that it never existed by ridding books from their library (such as "The Way to perfection", "Mormonism and the Negro" and "Mormon Doctrine," Volumes One and Two), and consistently contradicting Brigham Young's racist rhetoric (and I have an aversion towards Young because of it, I am aware that racism was commonplace at the time, but still), why would they want to hold events like this (or have a 40th anniversary celebration of the "lifting" of the so-called "Priesthood Ban")?
I apologize if this is a senseless question.

I'm almost tempted to attend and ask all kinds of questions about Brigham Young's rhetoric, questions about the first two versions of Mormon Doctrine, and all of the books they try to pretend do not exist in their library. I imagine that if I did, I'd be thrown out for being such a disturbance for TBM's and potential investigators.

Haha. Except Bed, Bath, and Beyond makes at at least some sense.

I cannot wrap my head around this. Does no one have a healthy self esteem anymore?

This link might (emphasis on MIGHT) give some insight on "Be One." I'm guessing it was the first conference.

Some of the comments are something else...

Very curious that everyone commenting seems to be *not* black.

But... there shouldn't be any blacks in the church.

To be scripturally accurate, if you were black, and joined the church, then your skin should have turned white right?

Therefore, everyone would be white, and there would be no blacks in the church.

Either the BoM is true, or it's not.

There are no Blacks in the church like there are no homosexuals.

" "There are no homosexual members of the Church. We are not defined by sexual attraction. We are not defined by sexual behavior." "

They are not defined by skin pigmentation.

Well, as Hinckley might say:

"I don't know that we teach it. I don't know that we emphasize it. I haven't heard it discussed for a long time in public discourse. I don't know. I don't know all the circumstances under which that statement was made. I understand the philosophical background behind it. But I don't know a lot about it and I don't know that others know a lot about it."

Some good questions to ask might be.
1) How many career black GA's are there after those 40 years? And I'm not talking about area authority whatevers that serve for less than 3 years.

2) Or even more intrusive how many blacks are on financial committees that deal with the investments of the church? Or sit on Board of directorships?

3) how much intermarriage is there between the Salt Lake Mormon Royalty families and the Blacks?

I'm thinking things in Utah are just as racist as they've ever been.
