What is the difference between User name and Screen name?

I've often wondered and want to wonder no more.

User name is the name you use as user of the computer, like, "owner's name", except people often use office computers.

Screen name can be anything else, such as "author's name", or "moremany" on RFM.

Unless the rules have all changed. (Thanks to Mormonism, I don't trust anything I've learned more than 5 years ago.)

I believe the username has pretty tight format rules, in particular, no blanks allowed. Screen names can be more eyeball-friendly. See, for instance, my screen name
