What?!

“Last August, a Federal lawsuit was filed by a Mormon attorney on behalf of at least six active Jehovah’s Witnesses — all claiming that by exposing their names (in court documents) they would be irreparably harmed.

By December, at least three more names were slated to be added to this lawsuit. Out of the nine active JWs who were party to this Federal lawsuit, three were alleged pedophiles.
I will be reporting more on this case shortly, but for the record, this case was dismissed in January.

The fact that the case was even filed in the first place is powerful evidence of what is going on behind the scenes with Jehovah’s Witnesses, child abuse, and their legal strategy.

The Mormon Church was funding attorney Robert Crockett to represent these Jehovah’s Witnesses (including alleged pedophiles) in an effort to suppress the release of their names in court documents.”

Why wouldn't the JWs pay Mr. Crockett themselves? It was their scalps on the line, as well as future JW scalps?

Granted, Mr. Crockett is visibly a stalwart mormonite, and the church is a target-rich environment for plaintiff attorneys, but why would Mr. Crockett involve himself in the JWs' defense on behalf of the mormon church?

Crockett runs a six-attorney boutique law firm specializing in business law; Kirton-McConkie (aka Kirtland-McCostco) probably has at least 6 heavyweight sex abuse attorneys who do nothing but investigate, negotiate and try these types of cases.

Here are the areas they claim, on the firm's website, to participate in:

Business Litigation | Real Estate | Environmental | Civil Trials | Intellectual Property | Religious Orgs | Healthcare | Corporate Transactions

So yeah, they will defend "Religious Organization", but from the sound of it, the case you didn't give any info about, was a suit against individuals, not the JW church itself.

For sure, Mr. Crockett is a super mormon! BYU, J. Ruben Clark law school 12 kids....

Give us a citation on the dismissed case!

Mormons have more money and more to lose.

I can't dispute that idea. But no matter how much money a person or organization has, they'd prefer not to lose any of it.

To imply that Crockett took that case to help the mormon cause only makes sense if there is some indicator that the mormon church paid him to do so.

Crockett has taken pro bono cases in the past, so it's possible he got onboard, for free, because either he thought it would be useful, or the church thought it would be useful. But it's highly unlikely that Crockett's firm would ever be lead counsel on a sexual abuse lawsuit given the church's connections with Kirton-McConkie.

If Crockett were a 'connected' mormon, he'd have been elevated to GA status by now.

Anyway, that's my view of the matter.

Crockett is too big a prick to move up the ladder. At times they've had trouble finding local callings for him.

That does not mean that the church is not willing to use his legal services for free.

It's not just a matter of losing money. There are also issues of prestige, something JW's aren't much into, government relations, not part of the JW program, or just flat out owning your own state, which JW's don't.

Tamping down sexual abuse lawsuits anywhere helps the Mormon Church's sexual abuse problem.
