this time what he said was so good, I'm thinking of making it my motto - or at least getting it on a t-shirt:
"You can't make sense out of nonsense."
I try to make sense out of the crazy way people in my ward behave but it'll never work because Dr. Phil is right - you can't make sense out of nonsense. There is no making sense out of their behavior. It's nonsense. THAT is the explanation I've been looking for.

I think that our human brains are wired such that we rather desperately want to make sense out of things. When I studied art I learned that you don't always have to complete a picture down to every last detail. In fact, it's better not to show every last thing, because the mind of the picture's viewer will happily supply the rest.
But sometimes no matter how hard your mind tries to make sense out of something, it simply can't be done. When you finally come to that conclusion, it's very freeing.
