https://kutv.com/news/local/wrestler-suspended-from-uvu-team-for-rape-accusations-is-accused-of-raping-again

This guy has had problems most everywhere he has been. From High School to four or five different colleges - he ends up at Utah Valley and while awaiting trial on Rape charges - he apparently Rapes another young woman.

Going to Utah Valley for sports - maybe a last gasp for his wrestling career - or is it that he is a Mormon and thought it a good place to be?

Yeah, those laws. They sure helped with polygamy.

Here's a 2014 article in which wrestler is featured, and which gives one background on him and the culture of wrestling.

He's from Southern Missouri... Is that mormon country? Looking at a map, it doesn't look like it. Not even close to Jackson County.

My mom wouldn't let my sisters date wrestlers when they were young enough that she had any say. I don't think mom believed they were inherently any more likely to force themselves on women, but if they did, even the smaller ones had skills that it would be tough for the average girl to fend off. Come to think of it, I don't think they were allowed to date anyone particularly brawny, either.

Yeah, that's how Paula B.'s parents rolled: No Brawnies, no Brownies!

I was a two-times a loser...

My parents were OK with brownies, though I was the only one to marry one. They would have preferred that Jillian were Mormon, but at that point I was already out. The mollies weren't all that interested in me anymore.

We can't label the whole group just because of guys like this.

Right! Otherwise, how would wrestlers ever reproduce?

I can see why they might be a problem as I had a boyfriend in high school who was a wrestler and I went to watch him wrestle so I saw that they had "moves" that could be a problem, but neither of them ever used them on me.

This guy should have been off the street.

With moves like these, I think they'll reproduce just fine.....

"A basic skill is a wrestling skill or technique that is fundamental to wrestling and/or the basis for other moves. Basic skills should be taught, learned and mastered prior to more advanced moves. The success of other moves are dependent on how well basic skills are executed. These skills should be drilled and retaught on a regular basis."

The seven basic skills are:

Stance
Motion
Level change
Penetration
Back step
Back arch
Lift

Apparently Racer has mastered the 4th item on your list. Another unlisted item is the "tap out" - and I give him an failing grade for that one.

I didn't mean to imply that my mom's rationale was good.

No clue about this guy, but there is an interesting association between Mormons and wrestling. Only four-year undefeated D1 wrestler is Mormon (Cael Sanderson). Only guy to beat Dan Gable is Mormon (Larry Owings). Movie “Foxcatcher” is about a Mormon wrestler, who was head coach at BYU (Mark Schultz).

Mark Schultz joined the LDS church a few years after ending his wrestling career, so I'm not sure the connection is significant.

You left off another famous Mormon wrestler, Olympic champion Rulon Gardner.

Gardner used to date my daughter's roommate. My daughter described him (in nice Mormon terms) as a total dick.

Mark Schultz was not a Mormon when at Foxcatcher nor when he won three NCAA championships and his three World Championships.
As a mormon - if you have kept up with him at all the wrestling world basically considers him nuts - and a big reason he has not landed another Coaching job. Given his resume he should have been on the short list for dozens of openings but his weird posts, tweets and statements have put off every school in the land.

Wrestlers (aka "rasslers" in Utah) wear singlets and grab other guys who are wearing singlets by the crotch. There's also a lot of face-to-armpit action. Wrestlers ("rasslers") should not even be in the dating pool.

You have a problem with this?

They are not genetic freaks like basketball players.

The decline of Circus Freak shows is parallel with the rise in popularity of the NBA.

“Wrestling” is about dominance. To which was added the concept of ‘weight classes’!

What human capacity or talent best predicts success as a wrestler?

In the arena of human endeavor, towards what end is wrestling useful?

If weapons are available, who recruits solely wrestlers as combatants?

To what end is any sport useful? Exercise? Why the hate on wrestling?

Hey, Jacob was a wrestler in the OT. Anyone ever wonder if he tried to grab the angel's nads? And would you watch it on Pay Per View?
