He could be putting his time and money into tithing, calls, priesthood meetings, and trying to measure up to other people's expectations. Instead, he spends time following trains, which benefit his well-being.
Aside from collecting videos and paraphernalia, do you have your own train set, Dave? Betcha do!
Against my better judgement, I had a look at this video. I thought it would be a cute steam train, maybe some beautiful scenery, but no, neither. Instead it spent about five minutes looking at a hideous concrete platform with ?steel? fittings. I skipped through a few sections.
Even when the train pulled away, there was nothing of beauty to be seen.
The only people I know who are interested in this kind of thing have mid-functioning Asperger's. It's harmless I guess, and it does no harm to "normies", but there is definitely an autistic bent to it. It is incredibly boring to the rest of us. If you're going to post train videos, then please, one going over the Rockies or something like that.
You may not share the interest, but train-spotting and interest in trains is a legitimate hobby. There is a railroad museum in Baltimore that is quite an interesting place, and a great place to take kids.
I like to watch planes takeoff and land at airports. The airports closest to me have dedicated spots where people can do this (many people like to do this.) Also in the past, I took a great interest in shipwrecks. This started when Robert Ballard first discovered the wreck of the Titanic. I enjoyed learning all about that ship, and other ships as well.
There are lots and lots of different hobbies -- more than you can think of. The web is great because you can find other people who share your interests, no matter how obscure.
I tried to get into this video, I really did. I'm trying to understand the mindset & I thought there might be something I could latch onto. But it's dull as ditch water. I can't help thinking there is an autistic element here. Autism doesn't make someone "bad" or "harmful", but it does make a person obsessed with particular narrow interest(s), and people with it mistakenly think most people share those interests when they don't. Many people are too polite to say anything to such a person's face.
If this video had beautiful scenery, or music, then I might get into it. But it doesn't. I'm just looking at chrome boxes and pillars. I have seen some interesting rail fan videos of long distance trains in Japan, Norway, North America, Australia, India etc. Some of them have entertaining presenters and history. If this was a video of the Ghan in Australia, the shinkansen in Japan, maybe the Trans-Siberian, it could be a lot more entertaining.
God knows I tried to get into the video he linked to. Just saying. I have friends who watch documentaries on trains and some of them are watchable. I just expected more.
